Title: Margaret GRIFFITHS
Post by: susie89 on Sunday 25 August 13 20:38 BST (UK)
HI

I am looking for info on the above, she was born approx. 1765 in Angle, she married Thomas White on 04/09/1791 in Angle. I believe they are the parents of my 3rd Great Grandfather John White who was born in Angle on 18/01/1792.

Any info would be appreciated

Susie

where did you get the approx date of birth? I can see a possible burial in 1804 dated 20th December giving an age of 44, which would put her birth a few years earlier. Thomas remarried in 1807 to Elizabeth Geary and he's noted as a carpenter on that marriage.

It looks like baptism registers earlier thatn 1779 have been lost, apart from a few found within another register. Have a look at Church Records on the parish's Genuki page

Hi

I haven't got a birth date for her, all I know is that she married Thomas White on 04/09/1791 in Angle, and her son John was born 18/01/1792.

Without a baptism for her I can't find her parents, thank you for the possible death and her husband's remarriage.

Susie  :)

Hi

Where was her death, and also the remarriage?

Hello Susie,

Sounds like we are cousins!  I too am descended from John WHITE (1792-1868) of Angle, PEM. I also have his parents as Thomas WHITE (c1765-1860)=Margaret GRIFFITHS (c1760-1804).
However, I am stuck here.  I cannot find parents for Thomas because I cannot find a baptism.
It seems that baptism records were lost.  Do you have any more information that could help?

Mike

Page 1 of Angle baptisms is dated 1773 but is headed "An account of those that were neglected to be registered by the late John Williams, Vicar of Angle in the Book that was lost". About 9 baptisms are recorded 1763 - 1779 - no Griffiths amongst the 9 - and the records begin properly 1785.

Hello 'hanes teulu'

Thank you for your rapid and helpful response.  I have the baptism for John WHITE in 1792 and so it's his father Thomas I am struggling with.  Sorry if I was not clear.  Were there any WHITE's in the 9 or so baptisms you mentioned?

Thanks again for your help
Mike

Just spotted the baptism of John White is viewable on FindMyPast (I was checking out a separate site).

Sorry, no Whites among the 9 pre. 1785 registrations. Sadly, the period you are interested in is not covered by Bishops' Transcripts (BTs), often the fallback in the absence of the Parish register. BTs cover the periods 1685-6, 1799-1807 and 1809-99.
