Hi Forum,
I am seeking more info on my Grandmother Emmie Bury (ne Lucas).
She was born in 1899 - Muswellbrook, NSW Australia and married George Albert Bury in 1924, in the same town I believe.
At the time of her eldest child's birth she and husband were living on Cabramatta Road Mosman at around 1927.
It seems the Lucas family are 'A Nation Within A Nation' according to my limited research..
However I would like to be able to source Emmie's immediate family - parents - siblings etc., and start from there.
Thanks all!
Sharyn. :)

Re: Lucas Family - Muswellbrook -Search;
Thank you all so much!
Emmie has so many descendants that have no idea of these vital family connections - much appreciated.
Still not able to get beyond name and detail entry to 'historical indexes' on NSW BDM site?
13987/1872 - Dinah Neilson - my Great Great Great Grandmother - then Dinah Nina Lucas (deceased 17890/1947)- what is the connection then to Charles and Nina @ Chatswood then, do you think?
Big thanks to all again!
Sharyn.

Chatswood is the district her death was registered and burial in Northern Suburbs Cemetery (Sydney). Dinah Nina LUCAS (nee NEILSON) birth was registered Muswellbrook and death registered Chatswood (which is a suburb of Sydney). Maybe Dinah Nina LUCAS was living/visiting children in Sydney when she died on 12 Sept 1947.
Some details at the time of death eg parents names, date/place of birth, names/ages of children, spouse, etc are provided by an informant upon death, so may not always be known/accurate.
To get more detailed information you need to purchase certificates ($31) or transcriptions $19-$20 same information but cheaper and can be sent by email http://www.bdm.nsw.gov.au/bdm_fh.html#transcription
cheers :)

Hello again Forum re: Lucas Family - huge thanks!
These names certainly echo from childhood 'listening in to adult conversations' and "ring" true throughout Emmie's descendants as well! :D
The name Neilson (Dinah Nina) is also interesting - am wondering if there is a Scandinavian connection now?
Also wondering how the Francis George branch of the Lucas's arrived in the 'Land Down Under'?
Certainly have some homework to do........... :P
Happy searching to all!

:)
LUCAS ..... locality Musswellbrook :)
LUCAS FG 19 Aug 1911
LUCAS Fanny 5 Feb 1904
The Deceased Estate files are usually full of family history 'goodies' .... including at times BDM certs, hand-drawn family tree charts etc particularly if the estate has been contested and witnesses called to prove their relationship to the deceased.

Hi,
Emmie is the granddaughter of James John Lucas and Fanny Lucas nee Green (sister of my ancestor Aaron Green). The Green family came to Australia in 1855:
Truro (694), dep 14 2 1855, arr 27 5 1855, 102 days,
GREEN Aaron 15
GREEN Anne 13 and family,
GREEN Fanny 20 and sister
GREEN Hannah 51 and family
GREEN James 57 and family
GREEN Louisa 22 and sister
I do not know where the Lucas family came from as yet - still searching,
-
Hi Neil,
I see2 conflicting info on parents of Francis G Lucas
I am interested in James John 1827(Born) father of FG Lucas - Do you have anything on his parents?(Died 24/11/1890)
Jendi ;)
-
James John Lucas (SNR) is becoming quite elusive Can anyone help?
Jendi :D
-
Welcome to RChat Jendi,
Do you have any of the NSW BDM documents that have already been mentioned in this thread?
Cheers, JM
-
Hi JM
I have been through most of them got a lead on a James Lucas came in on The Otago from England docking in Perth 1887ish 3 years before his possible death- That connection does not feel right to The James John Lucas I am interested in
Jendi : )
-
So re your James John LUCAS, what info do you already have, and what info would you like to find out?
What BDM certs etc do you already have, what info have you gleaned from these, what other info have you already gleaned etc...
Cheers, JM
-
Hi Jendi,
I see there was a probate administration for James John LUCAS in 1891
http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article114309158 (presumably for the man who died in 1890)
This implies that there is a probate packet for him at NSW state records - however it won't appear in online index as it is in the "gap years" of 1890-1914. (adding : very annoying - I wonder when they will complete the online index?)
I can check the microfiche index the next time I am state records and hopefully photograph the probate packet for you. It may contain a death cert and possibly other useful info.
regards
Ros

I think Ros is spot on in assuming that's James John LUCAS file. NSW SR online index has Sadler's Creek and 24 Nov 1890. (Reel 3025) :) :) :) Sadler's Creek definitely in Muswellbrook district.
NSW Electoral Roll 1878 THE UPPER HUNTER
John J LUCAS, freehold of Saddler's Creek, in the Musclebrook Police District.
NO OTHERS with that surname in that police district on the roll.
Cheers, JM

NSW ER 1903 HUNTER, polling at Musclebrook

Francis LUCAS, Male, of Hillside, farmer
Nina LUCAS, Female of Hillside, domestic duties

Saddler’s Creek is known to various of my elderly rellies. I will see if I can prompt any of them to finally join RChat and contribute directly. (HINT, HINT, HINT ..... :) )
Saddler’s Creek in the parish of Althorpe, Wynn etc, in the County of Durham, in the Land District of Muswellbrook, in the Pastures Protection District of Denman-Singleton, in the Shire of Muswellbrook. As per Geographical Names Board http://www.gnb.nsw.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0020/180533/8_LocalitiesNamesNSW1954_Q-T.pdf

In an obit for his daughter Ann BUDDEN it describes James J LUCAS as one of the pioneers of Saddler's Creek.

Agh, Nurse, thanks Ros
Deceased is survived by one sister, Nurse Lucas of Muswellbrook ….
NSW ER 193 oops another typo ::) 1913 (yes, the year BEFORE WWI commenced) UPPER HUNTER, Muswellbrook
Dinah Nina LUCAS of Bell’s Mountain, domestic duties
Fanny LUCAS, of Brook Street, nurse
So that should help link James John LUCAS to Fanny LUCAS, the nurse ….
Cheers, JM

Thank you one and all that has opened a can of worms- in a wonderful way.

Terry,
I wonder if you are aware that the method of displaying information in a Rootschat window that is commonly known as "cut and paste " is not permitted in the forum.
There have been many issues over the years regarding copyright and, in order to safeguard against litigation, this policy is in place.
I might add, because of the way it has been displayed in your posts, the information is very jumbled and difficult to read due to the juxtaposition of words and headings consequential to “cut and paste”.
This is also evident on your reply http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=376905.0
The correct process is to transcribe the details. Please see below.
I feel the need to mention also that the team here are entirely voluntary and would never ask for, or accept, any form of payment. In the spirit of the forum, you may consider removing you web address which mentions donations.
