On census 1881 in 1, moor lane then 1891 1901 my Great grandfather had died, Hannah jones widowed her birth place shows as Llechryd Cardiganshire 1839  I have guessed her maiden name because Thomas H Jones born in Aberystwyth was married TH Jones and his death TH Jones also his brother killed in action WH Jones, but I cannot find the births? cannot find a marriage cert for Hannah to David Jones? The only clue I have is that the name Hazzelby or Hazzalby Or Haselby has passed down the male line, my uncle gave his son the middle name also? Thanks Rosie be glad of any info you have.  regards Val

Hi,

There is a marriage in Aberystwyth in Sep 1863 with David Jones and Hannah Husleby on the same page

   Aberystwyth 11b 80

Could be a variation of Hazzelby. If the date fits with the children's ages it would be worth you getting a copy of the certificate. That should give you their parents names.

Thanks Rosie, looks like the right fellows, a lot to follow up . I did visit Aberystwyth Library in August, it was like getting into Fort Knox, not really much help, they kept telling me there is no Moor Lane, but we did find it near Holy Trinity church in Aberystwyth.
I think this Rootschat  is great

More baptisms.

11 Sept 1864 at Llechryd, Cards - David Hazelby Jones
26 April 1868 at Llechryd - Margaret Anne Jones

Both children of David and Hannah Jones, Tailor of Aberystwyth.

This means that the marriage I found in Sep 1863 in Aberystwyth is the correct one.

In the 1871 census David Jones is living with his grandparents Thomas and Margaret Hazelby in Llechryd. I believe you already have this record for Thomas.

There is a record of Marriage Banns for Thomas Hazelby of Llechryd and Margaret Thomas of Pembrin on 8 April 1838 at Llechryd.

Hi all a have been pondering this family over the last couple of hours, this is the ( I think) family the OP has for 1881:-

David Jones 37 occ Tailor b Aberystwyth
Hannah 37 b Cardigan
Margaret Anne 9
Mary Elizabeth 7
William 4
Thomas 2
Alice 5
All children born Aberystwyth
Residing at Moor Lane, Aberystwyth
Census ref  RG11/5445/23/41

So are these  the same family members in 1901?

Hannah 62 b Stichryd
Margaret A 28
Jane A 24
Thomas 20
Residing at 1, Moor Lane, Aberystwyth
Census ref Ref RG13/5163/124/24

Just found 1891:-

David Jones 50 occ Tailor
Hannah 50
Margaret A 18
Mary 17
Alice 16
William 15
Thomas 11
Residing 1 Moor Street, Aberystwyth
Census ref RG12/4558/40/26

So 1868 baptism of Margaret Ann looks wrong?

It is the same family. Margaret Anne b1868 is with the family in the 1871, so I speculate that either she died c1871/2 and the next daughter was given the same name, or she knocked a few years off her age. That was very common.

I also wonder if Thomas Hazzelby Jones registered Cardigan Sept 1864 is in fact David Hazelby Jones baptised in Llechryd 11 Sept 1864. It seems a big coincidence, and Llechryd is in Cardigan registration district. There are lots of mistakes in the registers.

:) Looks good, death Margaret Ann Jones June qtr 1871 Aberystwyth 11b 52 aged 3

New baptism would help c 1873? Plus I do not think going on the 1881 Margaret A " knocked a few years off her age"!!

Thanks guys, so much for me to take on board, didn't know about David Hazzelby jones being Hannah and David's son, with his grandparents. I first picked up Hannah with David Jones Census 1881 on Ancestry.co.uk now I how found 1871 David Hannah Margaret Ann also Richard ? dates are confusing me ? in Moor lane. I will order the marriage cert as you suggested, to give me more info on David Jones such a common name. I know happened to William H Jones 1877-1916 and my grandfather Thomas H Jones 1878-1953, but my great aunties are a puzzle, I remember something sad about Margaret, Aunt Mary we stayed with when we visited Aber, no nothing about Jane alice? did they marry? do I have any relations living, my late mother Gwyneth A Jones was writing to E Evans 5, Plas Ave., Llanbradarn rd., aber, I have had no reply.
