Hi
I am trying to find out when my great great Grandma died. Her name was Emily Corlett and she was born in 1856 in Ramsey. Her parents were Thomas and Mary and she had the following brothers and sisters: Catherine, Sarah, Henry, Christian and John P. We believe she died approx 1877 but can't find anything to verify this (she had a son Thomas Henry in 1877).
Can anyone help please? Many thanks!
-
hi so did she get married? I can see her in the census 's 1861 /71
-
Hi, no she didn't, her son Thomas Henry was a Corlett, and we don't know who his father was.
-
ok no good me looking for a death for corlett if she had got married ;)
-
Thank you for kindly looking :D
-
not having much luck what makes you think she died 1877
-
She was listed on Thomas Henry's baptism later on in 1877, but we couldn't find her on 1881. Can't remember if there was another reason we thought 1877!
-
have you found the child on the 1881
-
Yes, he is living at Sky Hill, Lezayre with his brother James, Ann Wilson b1821 in Ireland was the head and Charlotte Burrows her daughter born 1839 in Lezayre
-
saw that wondered if it was him
-
Yes, we don't know who Anne Wilson or Charlotte were
-
he is still with charlotte 1901
-
Oh thanks, expect he must have become close to Charlotte after living with her for that long
-
right so ann Wilson was charlotte 's mother charlotte has been amended to Wilson on the 1881 census ann a widow charlotte unmarried age 42 still don't know where they fit in or if they do?
have you found Emily's father on a later census? or was 1871 the last one
-
No I don't know how Ann and charlotte fit in at all. No, not found Thomas after 1871, so must have died between 1871 and 1881, but I don't have a confirmed year.
-
still looking?
-
The problem is Thomas Corlett isn't exactly an uncommon name in IOM!!
-
the problem is I can't see Thomas Emily's father in any other census except for 1861/71 can't find a death for him or Emily it's a mystery but don't give up there are some very good people on here someone will come up with something I'm sure ;)
-
Yes it is rather a mystery! I really appreciate your help though, thank you for so kindly looking for me! :D

double check that parentage for Thomas
in 1851 an 'Ann' Cown is shown as mother with mary corlett als [cain] head as wife
The Ann is actually JANE and she is mother of thomas - an illegitimate child of Thomas Corlett(of Maughold as in presentments in 1818 [see www.manxnotebook.com under subject presentments]) and Jane Cown [Cowin] bapt Maughold 18180913 - remember Manx illegits until civil reg in 1877/8 were known by father's name if affiliated - they are together in 1841 in port-e-vullen - Thomas is prob bur Maughold 18770304 age 59 (there might be an obit in newspapers - www.imuseum.im)
ETA the suggested John + mary als Kissack were living at Rhenab - John is buried Mau 18480419 age 77 from 'rhenab' and Mary bur bur Mau 18500320 age 75 also from Rhenab - living alone at Rhenab in 1851 is a Thomas Corlet journeyman shoemaker - now he might have changed trade and left his wife (tho he was with her in 1861 tho absent in 51, and in 51 + 61 is a joiner) but doesn't quite gell to me - Family search is notorious for badly constructed Manx trees done on matching what to a non-Manx are rare/uncommon names but on Island were very common and tracing some trees esp if an illeg child is concerned is tricky + error prone - 1st rule of Manx genealogy always look for conflicting evidence

Thanks for all the info! I shall definitely relook at all this!!
