Title: Surname: CESNAN
Post by: atina576 on Thursday 26 September 13 01:15 BST (UK)
My 2 x gt grandmother's maiden name CESNAN as written down at the baptism of her daughter Bridget in Chorley, Lancashire in 1851.   Ann married Owen McLOUGHLIN in Ireland & arrived in Lancashire prior to Bridget's birth - 4 other children born Ireland - Michael abt 1844 (my gt.grandfather), Peter abt 1846, Thomas abt 1847 & Hannah abt 1849.   My problem is that the only record I can find for a CESNAN is a John in the Griffiths Valuations in Sligo where my gt.grandfather stated on a census that was where he was born.  Birth dates for Ann & Owen are between 1811 & 1817 in Ireland depending on the census - not much help but any ideas would be appreciated.

The information you are looking for is well before the start of civil registration in Ireland and before surviving census records. Many early church records don't survive and of those that do many are not online, so this will probably be a difficult search.

If you use 'report to moderator' you can ask for this topic to be moved to SLIGO board instead of IRELAND RESOURCES (resource boards are not for queries) and hopefully people that are familiar with Sligo records might be able to offer advise.
