Title: NEW PETER STREET, ST. JOHN THE EVANGELIST
Post by: lasswade on Thursday 10 October 13 06:17 BST (UK)
Have found  someone with my family name (Ronayne) in the 1841 Crown Census... (Middlesex) He is 10 years old and described as a 'lab' which I guess is 'labourer'.

There are  about 14 people at this address, all different names and ages and I wonder if it is an institutiuon?

Does anyone know, please?

Thanks, Bea.

HO107 737 8 19 page 32 Richard Ronayne

The Ronayne family would seem to be just ("normally") sub-letting part of #39 New Peter Street.

Ray

Census summary HO107 737 8 describes
[ “Summarised as” ]
Great Peter St South Side
New Peter St
[ “Detailed as” ]
Providence Court, Whisters(?) Ground,
extending from Great Peter St to the posts which separate it from the north end of Holland Street.
Elizabeth Place
Blue Anchor Court
Bulls Head Court and
Ann’s Place

The only Ronayne b 1831 I can see at New Peter St is Richard, who appears to be with parents Thomas and Eliza, and siblings. He does not have an occupation.

They would seem to be just sub-letting part of #39 New Peter Street.

Yes, I was just about to suggest that too. Possibly renting a room? Not unusual for that place and time - you can see others in New Peter St doing the same.

Richard's father Thomas is described as a "Lab" (ie Labourer) but not Richard.

Hello Ruskie, hello again Ray,

Once again, thanks for the help. I am having some trials finding this family but will persevere. Replies from Rootschatters have been so quick and so helpful, often quite commonsense, too. (Bach is for bachelor!)

Hi Ray, thanks again... I'll check on Edward Ronayne.  And re. New Peter Street, I was brought up and still live in Australia, and most these place names are not familiar at all. Thus the call for help!

Bea.
