Title: COI Parish of Lea records
Post by: KD146 on Thursday 24 October 13 00:14 BST (UK)
I paid a visit to the RCB library to research the Coolbanagher COI birth, marriage and death records.

I also enquired about the existence of records for the neighbouring parish of Lea, but they do not hold the records for that parish.

I am particularly interested in my 3rd great grandfather William Franklin, who lived in Kilbracken by the 1860s, and it is reasonable to hope that his death might be recorded there, and also his wife Jane.  There would likely be other records in this parish of interest, too.

Has anyone managed to research the parish of Lea records, or does anyone know where they might be?

Many thanks.

In John Stocks Powell's book
Portarlington 1800-1850, there is this record;

1849.09.09 Baptisim
Percival Francis Palmer son of Wm Henry Palmer and Arabella Jane Franklin born Augt 10.

I would suggest you contact Ronnie Mathews (google ronnie mathews portarlington)

Many thanks Jack2227, I had that petty sessions record, which confirmed for me that William Franklin was still in Kilbracken in his age 60s.  Two of his daughters were living in Kilbracken at marriage, although they were born a long way away in Co. Wicklow, so the only record of him I would be likely to find in Laois would be a burial, if that.

Many thanks annclare for that link.  I did email them before and got no response, but I will try that link, and report back here what happens.

In the 1851 England census William Franklin is living with Arabella and Percival at Cambridge Terrace, Greenwich. Arabella's sister is also there. William is described as a Fellow of the College of Surgeons. Percival went to live in Texas. Although if you are looking for a William Franklin who was married to Jane, rather than Arabella Jane, this won't be the right one. Thanks though for the details of Percival's baptism.

Hi Sue, many thanks.  Unfortunately that is a different William Franklin.  My William Franklin most definitely was not a Fellow of the College of Surgeons, he was a mere land steward on a meagre pension, living in rural Queen's County in Ireland.  There is no Greenwich connection.

Hi, you must have posted at the same time as I modified my post. I just realized you were looking for a William whose wife was Jane, not Arabella Jane.
