I'm lying. Sorry about that, but bear with me.
I am a long standing fan of some panorama creation software called Hugin.
It can be used for many cool and interesting things, including stitching partial scans into larger scans.

As I'm sure many people here know, londonancestors have some very useful maps of London:
Boundary Commission Maps, 1885 - London Borough Maps.

I have made extensive use of their Islington one.
"back in the day" their 2Mb high-res maps might have taken a while to come down your 56k modem. These days - not so much.
And so to my project. I downloaded "most" of the 1885 maps, and made a Hugin project that stitched them all together.
So - for anyone that can install hugin, and download the maps, and overcome the teensy hugin learning curve, a 6 inch to the mile map of most of 1885 London awaits.
Download the attached txt file, change the extension to ".pto" load into hugin, then download all the images.
Around 5-10 minutes later, you should have a resource-hungry map. Enjoy!
I've attached a low-res "teaser map" to convince you it's worth the effort.
