Trying to trace members of my husbands family who emigrated from Ireland to the USA.
Hercules Russell and his wife Mary (nee Murray) and some of their children emigrated in 1882.
They left 3 children behind in Ireland with family members (Margaret Mary,Joseph James and Edmund)
They came from Tollymore,Maghera in Co.Down.They married in Ireland on the 21st Jan 1873 in Bryansford R/C Church.
Unfortunately we don't know what part of America they went to.Hopefully someone may be able to put some light on where they settled.

There is a Hercules Russell who died in Philadelphia 23 January 1898 aged 46 years. Buried Holy Cross Cemetery. That makes him born about 1852 - when was your Hercules born ?
Hercules was married and lived at 936 A 6 St Philadelphia.

Death of a son Albert Russell 23 March 1906 Philadelphia indicates the parents were Hercules Russell and Mary Murray. So the above death looks correct.

Looking at the 1882 passenger list, there were a few children with Hercules and Mary. One was Hugh Russell aged 2 years.
There is a death record in Philadelphia 10 June 1905 for Hugh Russell of the right age. Burial:- Holy Cross Roman Catholic Cemetery Yeadon, Delaware, Pennsylvania 14 June 1905

Residence Place: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Hercules and Mary had a young son Robert Russell - Inf on the 1882 passenger list. The only Robert Russell I can see in Philadelphia on the 1900 is in Philadelphia prison - Philadelphia Ward 26, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania born March 1881, immigrated 1882 - day labourer.

Its been a while from I posted about Hercules and Family.
I still cannot find information about Hercules wife Mary's death or if any of their family had married.
I did find out that Hercules sisters Margaret and Mary also emigrated to America.
They both became nuns in Notre Dame,St Josephs in Indiania.
Margaret was Sister Domitilla,she died in 1927 and Mary was Sister Edmund,she died in 1922.
They both were buried in Our Lady Of Peace Cemetery ( Margaret grave number is Lot 21,Set 3 and Row 8. Mary is buried in the same Lot and set next to her sister)
Still looking to see if I can find Photos or written articles about both of them.

Russell, Hercules, laborer, home 641 Cantrell
Russell, Hugh, laborer, home 641 Cantrell
The death certificate for Hugh has his address as 821 Morris St. The 1901 Philadelphia city directory has Henry Russell, bricklayer, at that address. Also in that directory is Hugh Russell, bricklayer, home 310 Federal.

Hugh Russell's death certificate says that he was married.

Hi everyone
Trying to find out a bit more about Ellen Russell born 1884 in Philadelphia.
She was living with her brother Henry who was born in Ireland on the March 21st 1877, they were boarders at Philadelphia ward 1, found this in the 1900 census.
Don't know what happened to them after that.
Would appreciate any help in finding any other information about both of them.

On the 1900 census, Ellen is listed as born in Dec. 1884.
There is a Pennsylvania death record for Nellie McConnell who died 6 May 1938 in Philadelphia. It says she was born 26 Dec 1885 in Philadelphia and her father was Hercules Russell b. Ireland. No mother's name is listed, but it says the mother was born Ireland. Nellie was the widow of Daniel A. McConnell. She died at 2521 So. Carlisle. She was buried in Holy Cross cemetery.

Gives me a bit more to go on, not sure about Henry hopefully he lived longer than his brothers as they died in their 20's.
Must Irish women in the 1900's named Ellen would have used the name Nellie, it the same name as her aunt who lived here in Ireland.

The 1901 Philadelphia city directory has Russell, Henry P., bricklayer, home 840 Earp, which matches the address where Henry & Ellen were in the 1900 census. In the 1899 Philadelphia city directory Henry Russell, bricklayer, & Robert Russell, driver, were at the same address.
