my 3 tmes great grand parents are buried at st sannan cemetery bedwellty, they are james miskell died dec.1879 & ellen miskell d. dec 1873 along with son William d. dec 1873, is there any way of finding the actual grave or graves

Information on the internet seems to indicate that many of the headstones have been laid out as pathways in the churchyard.
Assuming you are fit and able enough, then perhaps a visit to the church would be feasible - I see that you live in Newport, and I'm also assuming that it is the Newport which is only some 15-20 miles away from Bedwellty.

its rather a big cemetery and many of the headstones are indecipherable

My apologies - I was thinking that 1873-79 graves would be in the churchyard, rather than the large cemetery across the road.
Perhaps contact with the minister might throw a light on the whereabouts - churches often have burial maps, which will indicate more precise locations. Alternatively the local Family History Society may be able to help.

Oops! Looks like the church is no longer a church :'( But a previous post on Rootschat suggests contact to Gwent Records Office for burials prior to 1900.

Added: Is that an inference that the burial records for your ancestors, in particular, are missing from the register, or that the burial records for the church itself are missing for that period?

I assumed while at the record office that there was another volume of records but staff there said no, I have to take them at their word even though I had seen the record I was looking for earlier that day on fiche

All three burials are entered in the Parish burial register, Ellen and William on page 194 and James on page 258, and these records are held at Gwent Archives, Ebbw Vale. Unfortunately there is no grave location indicated. I have taken a look at the Memorial Inscription transcriptions, also at Ebbw Vale, but sorry to report that there are no Miskell's entered. This could indicate that they are buried in an unmarked grave. There is a possibility that the gravediggers book still exists and is still with them. The only other avenue is to ring CCBC bereavement services on :- 01495 235189/235225.

Hi Gerry, Appreciate all the information, I saw the records in the parish register while at Gwent records last week, all that was missing was a plot no. I'd spoken to the vicar at St. Sannan the week before and all she could tell me that the registers were indeed at Gwent records. As soon as I have time, I will pursue the possibility of gravedigger registers but not really sure how to contact them. Thanks once again.
