I have started to go over previous research I have done and believe I was headed down the wrong path.
I am looking for a death certificate in hope to find parents names. I want to buy some credits on Scotland people but with the name of John Henderson will I need to take out a bank loan?. :P
John was in the 1911 census living at Kelvenside with his wife Jessie and sons John and Peter. He was a cooper and born in about 1854 in Caithnessshire wick.
His wifes name was Jessie Stephens or Steven.
So anyone have any suggestions on how to get the best out of the information I have without spending a mountain of money.
Thanks for your time
Debbie

I peeked at the census , I see his wife is from Fraserburgh and only one Jessie Stephen (incl spelling variations) married a John Henderson there and that was in 1875, his parents will be listed.

Family search has the marriage as 7th Oct 1875 Fraserburgh. Unfortunately no parents names on the transcription!

Thank you both. I enjoy a good mystery.

Found this. :)
But can anyone read the mothers name of John Henderson. Is it Jessie Lindan or Linclan OR something totally different.. :-\

Interesting how they say "Henrietta Henderson Or Sinclair" . First time I have seen this. Thank you I did do a search using John Henderson and Jessie Sinclair but came up with nothing.. now I will have to look again.
Thank you

Debbie ,
Have you looked at http://www.freecen.org.uk/ for the 1861 Census transcription ?
There is a John Henderson age 33 cooper with wife Janet and son John aged 8 in Caithness.
No Henrietta though , so not sure about that one

Jessie and Janet are interchangeable in Scotland (one being a pet name).
1861 - Latheron, Caithness
John Henderson 33 Cooper b. Wick, Caithness
Janet Henderson 35 ditto
Ann Henderson 11 ditto
Christina Henderson 10 ditto
John Henderson 8 ditto
Margret Henderson 6 ditto
Peterina Henderson 3 ditto
Alexina Henderson 1 ditto
Johan Taylor (?) 31 sister in law ditto
1871 John is with his grandparents, John and Ann Sinclair, in Wick
1871 - Achsingegar, Latheron, Caithness
Janet Henderson widow 45 born Wick
Peterina Henderson 13 ditto
Alexina Henderson 11 ditto
Janet Henderson 9 born Gormey, Caithness
Isabella Henderson 7 ditto
(I am only able to view transcripts of Scottish census)
John Henderson married Janet Sinclair 3/11/1848 Wick, Caithness
So, your John Henderson's father John was indeed deceased by the time of his marriage in 1875. John senior died ca.1863 to 1871.

WOW !!!!!!
I am so over thankful for what you are finding.!! (I have always loved the friendly people on rootschat).
I am going to look over this when I get everyone settled in bed... I must admitt my head is spinning with these names. (Janet / Jessie) and now the place Latheron.
I now have credits on scotlands people so all I need to do is find the helpful documents to set me in concrete. :-)

Hi Everyone,
Just wanted to thank all who helped last night. (for me). I finally found John Hendersons death certificate and it confirmed that parents name. :-) yes I was on the wrong track this past year. But I do not regret it as I have learned alot of interesting facts.
I still have not found John in the 1871 census that Annette showed being at his grandparents John & Ann. BUT.. I am sure its not too far away.
Again thank you all so very much. ;D

I think, from reading this thread, that I could be a descendant and a relalive.
The Family records that I have start with John Sinclair and Ann MacKay who married in Wick in 1825. I think they had three children - Janet born 1826, Isabella and Alexandrina.
The Sutherland name came in a bit later around 1870. I will find out exact names and dates but this looks promising. Wemyss is an old family name that has come down the line. Supposedly it comes from the Earl of Sutherland, my cousin had the second name Wemyss but my mother wouldn't let my father add it to my name.

John and Ann Sinclair had another daughter called Anne Sinclair (Ann or Anne) who married David Sutherland in Wick on 15/01/49. David was a gardener/coachman from Thumster. They had 4 children all born in Wick - David (b 7/2/1849, a month after marriage), Catherine (1851), Elizabeth Sutherland Weymss (1852) and James (1854). David married Margaret Mitchell of Dundee in Dunedin NZ on 30 May 1882.
I realise that is going down a different branch than the Hendersons but it is interesting for the record.
