Hello everyone.
I'm trying to find out the parents of Edwin Paget. He was born 1898 around Devizes and passed away 23/04/1972.
He married a Florence Mary Hale in 1925 in Swindon.
He had a son called Dennis Paget born 1939 near Wallingford.
If anyone can offer a guess at Edwins Parents or other children for me?! I think he had at least 2 other sons.
Dennis Paget is my grandad :) I know that Florence and Edwin are both buried near Swindon and Dennis lives near Swindon as well.
I've got back to 1700s for the rest of my family, but grandads family is just stumping me.
Any help would be most appreciated.
(I have been guessing at an Ernest Albert Paget and Elizabeth Ellen Paget (born Mills) but I can't really prove any of it!)

You know, I've just realised I'm not actually sure he was even born in Devizes!
-
Your first step should be to purchase Edwin's marriage certificate, as that will mention his father?
There are 3 Edwin Pagets born in the time frame!
December qtr 1897, Clutton, Edwin Percy Paget
June qtr 1898, Maidenhead, Edwin Mostyn G Paget
September qtr 1898, Devizes, Edwin Paget
And that's assuming that you have his birth correct?
If it's from the death certificate, it's only the information supplied at the time ::)
EDIT:
A tree on Ancestry has his parents as William Henry Paget and Annie L Beams, but I have no idea if their information is documentated?!
Off to work now - will try to help later.

Hi,
I d tend to agree with parents possibly W H (Henry in 1901) and Annie
1901 Rg13/1945 29/8
The family are under Page in the census but 10 years later they appear as Paget.
Edwin aged 2 in 1898 born Market Lavington which was in the Devizes reg district.
Can t find any baptism, as KGarrad suggests it would be best to obtain the marriage certificate.
Cathy :)

The birth year is off of his grave, (I assume these are correct?)
The Edwin Paget born in Clutton is ruled out as his birth was in 1897.
So its either Maidenhead or Market Lavington I guess!
I am kind of erring away from anyone with middle names as my granddad and all of his children don't have middle names. Just makes me feel like it's a family thing not to have them?!
On the Maidenhead census for 1911 the parents are Edwin and May. (And they have beautiful handwriting!)
UPDATE: I've just ruled out the Maidenhead one as he got married in Maidenhead in 1927. (Whereas my mine married in 1925 and stayed married until death.) So it is the no middle names Devizes family.
Thank you for helping me narrow it down everyone! Now to find the other children....
Thanks for your help everyone :)
Edit: Yep, bought the 1911 census and his parents are indeed WH and Annie. Guess they had middle names at some point then! Wonder why they stopped?

Isnt it better to purchase a certificate or two, and be sure you are following the right line, rather than "guess" and possibly end up with a meaningless tree that is a list of non-linked names, completely incorrect?
Edwins marriage cert will give a fathers name and occupation hopefully.
That, coupled with what else you know from the gravestone, might help you find him in 1901 and 1911 censuses.
In turn leading to the correct birth registration , his birth cert then hopefully confirming parentage and giving mothers maiden name.
As to his children, mothers maiden name is shown in the index after 1911. So it will be a case of looking for births with surname Paget and mothers maiden name Hale.

The death registration gives a birthdate:
Edwin Paget born 6 July 1898
Death reg: Jun qtr 1972 Swindon 7c 2217.
For what it's worth, this (date-wise) is consistent with the Sep qtr 1898 Devizes birth registration.

Anything I have guessed at has been written down and not put onto my tree. Because it's a guess. Thus why I came here for some constructive help. :)

William Henry Paget and Annie L Beams
Interestingly his name is slightly different on what looks likely to be the marriage (in the index at least).
Marriage, Dec qtr 1881
Henry PAGE [sic]
Annie BEAMS
on the same page, Highworth 5a 17.

The family is enumerated as PAGE in 1901 (already found by Cathy) and also in 1891: RG12/1995/29/1.
Edwin's older brother Ernest seems to have been registered at birth as Ernest John PAGE (Dec qtr 1887 Chippenham) and to have died in WW1 as Ernest John PAGET, 24 Oct 1914.

Hello Forest Bear
I'm not sure how to use this but Edwin Paget was my granddad.
-
1939 register has a Leonard C Paget b 17/5/1928 living with parents Edwin & Florence in Wallingford.
A Leonard C Paget m Felicity V Barnes in q2 1956 @Marlborough.
A Felicity Valerie Barnes died q3 1973 @ Cheltenham.
A Leonard Claude Paget d q3 2002 @ Cheltenham
5 Paget children, mother's maiden name Barnes were born between 1957 and 1968, 3 in Marlborough 2 in Swindon. (I have not given names in accordance with RootsChat policy as they are likely to be still living.
The 1939 register has 5 closed records at the same address.

I can confirm that Leonard Claude Paget married twice and had six children in his first marriage and two more children in his second marriage. The first two twins died but all the rest are alive and the family continues to grow.
