Title: Piershill Cemetery
Post by: mamad on Thursday 05 December 13 16:15 GMT (UK)
Hello,
Hoping someone is familiar with the layout of Piershill Cemetery.  Is there a separate war memorial for the Jewish men who lost their lives in WW1 and WW2? I have a list of the names and wondered if they are remembered on a memorial to all who lost their lives or on a separate memorial.
Thanks
Mags

Thank you. I notice it says "scattered graves for WW1". However, I have a book of MIs for Portobello and Restalrig which includes Jewish Inscriptions in Piershill Cemetery. The book gives a list of names under
23) 1914-1918 War Memorial
24) 1939-1945.
I have researched the names and wanted to know if there was a Jewish Memorial as I hope to pass on my findings. I don't live in Edinburgh so can't visit.

Mags, just checking whether you have come across this link www.iajgs.org/cemetery/scotland/edinburgh-lothian.html

Might give you ideas and links of where to also check.

Fantastic Monica!
I'll now be able to pass on this link with all the information I have about the men remembered on this memorial.
Many thanks

My G-G uncle, Anthony Hall, was a well known athlete in the UK in the 1860s and 70s.  Later he posed for two different statues of Robert Burns and also the "Golden Boy" atop the dome of Edinburgh University.  He is buried in Piershill Cemetery in Edinburgh, in an unmarked grave.   My question is this.  Does anyone have the records of burials in this cemetery.  I do not live in Scotland.   I descended from Anthony's brother, John Henderson Hall, who emigrated to the U.S. in 1881.
