Hi Hannah
Unfortunately, we all have to pay to use Scotlands People as they don't have a subscription service. The information you are looking for won't necessarily be freely available elsewhere.
As the gift season is almost upon us, could you ask for money/credits for Christmas to help you along?

A further set here worth going through http://genforum.genealogy.com/scott/messages/15344.html
One of them states:
Robert SCOTT B. Abt. 1789 D. 14-02-1872 MARRIED(date unknown)Helen OLIVER B. Abt 1796 D. 13-02-1855. According to his death certificate Robert was the son of John SCOTT and Helen ELSINTON.

You are very fortunate that so many people have been researching these lines and have made their info available online as they have :)
A good and free site to search for census information, particularly strong for the areas you are looking at for the family is www.maxwellancestry.com/ancestry/default.htm Census info for the early censuses is also available via www.freecen.org.uk/
