Title: Neal and Scantlebury
Post by: Kenneal67 on Monday 16 December 13 20:58 GMT (UK)
Hi All

I am stuck on a piece of my jigsaw so I am looking for help.
I am trying to find out the parents of William Neal born circa 1815 and in the census records 1841/51/61 etc he states he is from Calstock. He married Mary from Virginstow but not sure where they were wed.
William and Mary had a son William who married Elizabeth Ann Scantlebury in Landulph.

I have searched all of the usual sources and cant find any more about William(1815) and maybe a Scantlebury researcher might be bake to help

Cheers

Ken

Hi I can see the family you describe in 1851 ie William b Calstock with Mary and William 10 in St Mellion
So as to get a time frame for any possible marriage is this your 1841?

William Neal 25
Mary 30
Thomas 6
Nancey 4
Male 1 month
Residing at Horse Pool, St Mellion
Census ref HO107/133/ 5/3 / 11

That looks promising I had tried all spellings but not Neele  8)

What I would really like if I can though is to find Williams parents but I think I am dreaming

Thanks ever so much

;D I know your frustration in searching for William! How far is Kilkhampton from Calstock, I bet it is miles away!

That marriage looks a possibility going on the age of Mary in 1851 ie

Baptism Maria Norcott 19th April 1807 Virginstow Father John Mother Joanna

A possible?

My word

I have searched the OPC site and cant even find William Neele and Mary Norcott

Where are you looking?

Maria Norcott again with that year fits almost too well

Cheers

Ok this is a possibility

I have an ancestor John  Neale/e in Calstock married Ann Serjeant in 1812 ( in parish registers this marriage is recorded as kneal)

It looks like the William I have was born in 1812 and both John and William have an association with Horsepool which appears in later decades so I am certain they are related.

Anyway I am thinking it is possible that William was the first Child of John and Ann but was born before they were married. Does anyone know if there is any way to check for illegitimate births?

Cheers

If you are able to logon to ancestry.co.uk, then you should be able to find the family tree for (Samantha) Neal that I have done. I'm trying to find out information about my biological granddad, Raymond Aubrey Neal, who I know has passed away. After he split with my grandmother he was married to a Thora Elizabeth and I think he had two sons with her.

Hi Tom

There are hundreds of Samantha Neals so I would need some further info like a birth year or location
