Post by: Helen Bedford on Friday 20 December 13 16:58 GMT (UK)
Hi
My Grandmother Rose was baptised in Bedford St Mary 12 Oct 1883 in a multiple baptism.
There were later siblings I know but I was wondering if they were baptised there? can anyone help please?

What were her parents names and who were her siblings and their birthyears?

Have you checked Family Search?

Ordering and viewing the microfilm at your nearest LDS Family History Centre is your best bet. These records aren't online.

Oops, Sorry :-[ That comes of rushing it!
The surname is Gammons and the parents are John and Sarah - he was Station master at Cardington later on at the 1891 census, but at the time of the baptism he was a pointsman.

I have 11 children (including 2 sets of twins)so far but there are a couple of gaps - 1877-1881 & 1883-1888, and as all the other children seem to come along quite regularly I believe that there should be more to find.
So I am particularly interested in these:
Mary Jane Gammons died aged 0 in Jun 1879
Susan Gammons died aged 0 Mar 1887
Harry Sidney Gammons born Sep 1885
Frank Alexander Gammons born Dec 1887, died aged 0 Mar 1888
(all either in Bedford St Mary or Cardington?)

Have you looked at the 1911 entry as that will tell you how many children were born and how many were still alive

There were quite a number of Gammons families in Bedfordshire and some of the deaths may be theirs.

Good point! I had forgotten that - fortunately they both lived past the 1911 census!
In this case they admit to having 12 children born alive, with 10 surviving.
Unfortunately this is a bit of a mixed blessing as I know that one of the twins died - but did they count him as he was born and died in the same quarter? No way of knowing if he ever lived! His name was Jesse and he was twin to Annie in Jun 1890 - or was he? He was on the same page but I haven't actually bought his certificate.

Oh dear! that hasn't helped! I'm back to square one! I've only got 10 children for sure!
I'm not sure which ones are mine - like you said there are a few Gammons families in the area!

If he was born alive and his birth was registered then yes- they would have counted him as a deceased child

I was afraid you were going to say that!
So I guess the next thing I need to find out is if Jesse is son of John & Sarah, the railway man.
Unfortunately I'm on a tight budget so if I can find another way other than buying a certificate I need to investigate it!
