I am a bit lost and not sure if I am being led down a garden path but if someone can look up this marriage for me it may solve a puzzle and be most appreciated.
The marriage is for Charles Wills to Emily Croad. The information on Charles, such as his birthplace and father's name would be most helpful. I have been told it was at St. Helier in May 1842 but cannot verify that.
Further to that he seems to disappear again after 1854 but cannot locate a burial in any on line indexes.
Any help would be most appreciated.

Hi and welcome to Rootschat
I am posting the CI 1851 details for reference - children b St Helier
Charles Wills 45 b England - coach driver
Emily 35 b England
Frances 8
Emily 7
Arthur 4

Where did you get Emily's maiden name from?
-
1861 for St Helier - children born St Helier
Emily Wills 47 widow b England
Emily 17
Arthur 15
James 7

So Charles died between 1851-1861 or 1853-1861 assuming James is his son
In 1871, Emily and son James are still living in St Helier

According to the National Archives: "There are no birth, marriage or death records for the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man available to see online."

Hi Carole,
Thanks for the reply. I have all the census information and have actually tracked most of the family from 1851 census on. Problem I have is proving the Charles Wills is who I think he is. I have noted on this forum replies for marriages that show the place and birth and father of the groom and am hoping someone will be able to supply that for me.
The maiden name comes from an on line index of the baptism of Elizabeth Francis the first child.
Regards,
David

There is a very helpful website that has some information that has been transcribed. http://www.theislandwiki.org/index.php/Jerripedia

I think the biggest problem that you have is that the census only shows England, with no more clues.
I wonder if this could be Emily, the age is about right?
Emily Croad
Baptism Date: 30 Jan 1815
Cerne Abbas, Dorset
Mother's Name: Martha Croad
The entry says base born daughter of Martha Croad.

I can't be 100% certain but there is an 1841 entry in Dorset for an Emily Crade (indexed as Crader) a servant aged 25 living in Wimborne Minster Dorset & shown as born in county

Thanks Groom and Carole. I have all that but cannot connect everything until I can get that marriage information which may have the information I need. I am thinking that Charles split from his then wife prior to 1841. If he married Emily in 1842 and the first child was born the same month that could be the reason why he left England. I think there is a very good chance this is him and if so creates a whole other family to track. It may also resolve the death issue I have been sitting on for about 10 years if once I confirm that is my Charles via the marriage then I will concentrate on locating his death.
