Hello,
I have been trying to discover anything about her childhood in Ireland especially her birth, parents etc but have been having difficulties.
According to the a birth cert for her daughter,my Great Grandmother Mary Cassidy Ann was born in Longford,Leinster,Ireland. I believe she could have been born abt 1859 if she was 42 according to the 1901 census. The family were in Scotland then.
She married Patrick Cassidy 1880 and her first son was born 1881 in Longford,Longford,Ireland.
This may be the family in 1901 Living at 37, Albert Street, Govan
CASSIDY Patrick 40 Fireman On Steamship b Ireland
CASSIDY Annie Wife 42 b Ireland
CASSIDY Robert 19 Apprentice Riveter Shipyard b Ireland
CASSIDY George 17 Apprentice Riveter Shipyard b Ireland
CASSIDY Francis 15 Apprentice Catch Shipyard b Ireland
CASSIDY Patrick 13 b Ireland
CASSIDY Mary 6 b Govan, Lanarkshire
CASSIDY Susan 3 b Govan, Lanarkshire
(I found this out thanks to another rootschat topic)
Thank you for any help.
Much appreciated,
Francesca

Hello,
Her marriage certificate would give you her father's name and perhaps an address-townland to help you further.
Longford June quarter 1880 vol 3 pg 195
You can order a certificate through this site http://www.welfare.ie/en/Pages/General-Register-Office.aspx

When you order the marriage certificate you want a 4 euro research copy (called uncertified copy (photocopy)) not certified one at 20 euros.

Ann has a sister Mary born abt 1873 in Ireland. I have found a Scotland Census for 1891,she appears to be staying with the family in Scotland.

The marriage certificate, which you should have by now, will list the name and occupation of Ann's father. You can then check the extracted Irish births on LDS site to see if you can find a Mary Stafford born c1873 in Co. Longford with a father of the same name. You should also check to see if Mary married in Scotland- that certificate will show far more detail than an Irish one (including the names of both parents).
