I don't seem to be able to re-upload my avatar as it has disappeared.
I have tried "upload Avatar" but cannot gain access to my Eigene Dateien.
Before I call my "inhouse expert", i'd appreciate a little information.

What avatar do you mean Gill, I can see one under your name? A cat asleep on a newspaper?

Hi, there has been numerous threads on this topic, I think it has to do with the browser different people are using, internet explorer I think,
Groom can see the avatar but I cannot, there is just a red cross.
Trystan was trying to sort it out.

I can't see it but then if you can, that's ok!
BTW, the kitten is asleep on a book of German grammar.
You should hear him swear in German.

Yeah, I'm on IE9 and can only see certain avatar's, I think Trystan said it had something to do with the Download/Upload size of the avatar, I could be wrong though :-\

As with quite a few other avatars, yours shows up quite normally in FireFox and Chrome browsers but not, for some reason, in Internet Explorer.
Trystan found that the width of the avatar must not be more than 80 pixels so first of all I thought that that may be your problem, as it seems to be with Emmeline. However I managed to download yours onto my pc and look at it with Paint Shop Pro and I saw that yours is the correct size. Also when I made it my avatar (on a temp basis just to check), it was visible in IE 11.
Computing is a weird science so perhaps you would like to download the avatar which worked, from this posting and upload this one to your 'Forum Profile'?

Just a little re-cap for uploading a new avatar
1) Click on Profile then Forum Profile
2) Click on Browse to find the picture on your computer
3) select the picture and click on open
3a) its address will now be in the box beside the word 'Browse'
4) scroll down and click on the button "Change Profile"
Hey presto, all you have to do now is to refresh the page and fingers crossed your avatar will be there

What is odd, Carol, is that it is a quirk with IE but not the other browsers.

I've saved your avatar as a .gif file, and re-uploaded it to your profile for you. You'll now be able to see you very clever cat reading German grammar again! I'm working on the problem that seems to affect only Intenet Explorer users.

Not trying to confuse things but I'm using IE9 and can see everyone's avatar. Have checked a few topics with lots of replies and can see all those too. Not found a single red cross yet ???

Hi, definately an enigma, I'm on IE9 with Vista and cannot see the avatar on the link that Trystan provided but like Deidre784 I can see the large Avatar on the link she provided,

Added: I can however see the Avatar of swissgill now some magic has been performed on it by Trystan.

I'm on Vista too at home, but just checked my work laptop (IE8 and windows xp ::) ) and it's the same - I can see all but the avatar on the profile Trystan sent.

Deirdre - I didn't think you'd see the avatar of the profile, so that's good (in a funny way!). The larger profile image size in the link that you provided doesn't affect this issue, as you and Frank have found.
Frank - yes, I changed her avatar to a .gif file format and it appears now for those of you that couldn't see it before.
Anyhow, I can see a pattern in what the problem is, but apart from people re-saving as a .gif, I've yet to come up with an idea of how to solve it.

Great - in that case you can see the same avatars, and not see the avatars that everybody else is having problems with when they are browsing the site with later versions of Internet Explorer. Most of the avatars are not affected.
But you can see *that* avatar (http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=221557) becasue you said it was a big one - I'm guessing you've pasted the wrong link there.
I've got a testingn set up here, so I can see the ones that don't work, so there isn't a need to post me links to them - but thank you ever so much for asking!

I probaby started reading this AFTER Gill's avatar had been sorted but because I could see it I joined in the discussion. As on all forums (fora?) when avatars or icons (or text) is updated it can make for confusing reading afterwards ::)

Not so fast....
I'm running windows 7 version 6.1 on a hp netbook with IE 11.
Still no avatars on this but avatars viewable on the main pc (don't ask me what os that is but I do know we use firefox for the internet.
