Title: Ocean View Burial Park, British Columbia............
Post by: minniehaha on Saturday 04 January 14 01:27 GMT (UK)
I wonder if some kind person would be able to visit this cemetery..........

John Clapham DIXON was cremated at the Garden Chapel, Ocean View Burial Park, Burnaby, British Columbia.

He died on 17th February 1982. I am wondering if there may be a memorial plaque?

Any information about this man would be most welcome.

Have you followed the advice (find a grave, etc.) given on other topic?

Hi:

I've got quite a few relatives there, its a large place where you easily get lost if you don't know where to go.

Try contacting Ocean View first to get an idea of his location:

I don't mind going there to take a photo if you can find out more details on his location.

Hello again Sami,

I tried filling in the e-mail "Contact Us" form on the website to which you directed me, but unfortunately one of the fields required to be filled in relates to either a State in the US or Province in Canada. Nothing outside of these countries. So as I am somewhat removed from these areas, it would appear that I am back at square one..............?

Hi minniehaha:

Phoned Ocean View this morning.

Apparently John Clapham Dixon was cremated in the crematorium at Ocean View which at that time was called Garden Chapel. The cremated remains were then sent back to the Mount Pleasant Chapel (the Funeral Director on the death cert.) Ocean View has no record of his interment taking place within the Ocean View Burial Park.

The only way to know what happened to his ashes is to contact Mount Pleasant. They are now called Mount Pleasant Universal Funeral Home and are still at the same address as on the death cert.

Their records may say who picked up the ashes or if they were interred in another cemetery. Have you checked to see if he is interred in Mountain View? The "Vanmap" that bbart mentioned wouldn't open for me this morning so I haven't been able to check.

Thank you Sami for that information. I will now try the "Vanmap" as mentioned by bbart.

Thank you for your help. It is appreciated............

My apologies to Aghadowey for not responding to your message. It was squeezed in above an advertisement and I missed it! So far not found what I need on 'find a grave' but thank you for reminding me about the site.  :)

Hello Sandra,

My goodness, I placed that request seven years ago. How time flies! Thank you, yes I did manage to get both those items. I obtained the newspaper death notice by e-mailing one of the libraries. Not sure now whether I paid for the death certificate copy but I do have it.

I am out of touch as to what is available on line now for British Columbia. Is it possible to obtain birth certificate copies after 1903? which I think was the cut off year.

Sorry, much the same restrictions as years ago  :-\

The British Columbia Archives (Royal BC Museum) holds the following records:

births (1854 to1903)
marriages (1872 to 1944)
deaths (1872 to 1999)
colonial marriages (1859 to 1872)
baptisms (1836 to 1888)

Thanks for that Sandra.

Fortunately here in New Zealand we can search for:

Births that occurred at least 100 years ago.
Stillbirths if registered at least 50 years ago.
Marriages that occurred 80 years ago.
Deaths that occurred at least 50 years ago or the deceased's date of birth was at least 80 years ago.

So as each day rolls over, more records are added. A very good system for family tree enthusiasts.  :)
