Currently researching the Holden Family within South Kilkenny, specifically within the old barony of Knocktopher - that is, Kells, Ballyhale, Mullinavat, Killahy, Kilkeasy, Danganbeg and environs. Anyone with knowledge / interest? Specifically interested in period 1690 - 1801. Thanks.
-
Am also interested in any Holden's from Wexford, town and county? / Callan or even Carlow.
-
Hoping to attract hits to this post, am looking to expand on my family tree that already covers Holden families from:
- Ballyhemin
- Killahy
- Cloone
- Busherstown
- Shambogh
- Mullinavat (Village of)
- Scart
- Glendonnell
- Smithstown
- Pollrone
- Red Acres
- Hugginstown
- Ballyhale
All of the above in South Kilkenny , but as I mentioned, am very interested in any Holden family extended to the greater County of Kilkenny, Tipperary, Wexford, Carlow etc.
My research also covers name variants including:
- Holding
- Houldin
- Houlding
Thanks
John

Cheers

Thanks again Jack, very useful. Decendents of John Holden's family are now resident in Ballyhale and am in communication with them. Will ask to see if Brownsford Holden's are anything to them. Any other Callan cemetary you have information on, also greatly appreciated. I have built a survey of most cemeteries in South Kilkenny, Mullinavat/Aghaviller/Hugginstown for instance, but am sure there are many more. I can email you my survey if interested. Cheers, John

Just read the posting about headstone in Inistioge Cemetary;
Laurence - 22/2/1954, and John 1879 - 1933, were brothers.
Also "their son James 3/4/2000," refers to James Holden ( Son of Laurence & Margaret Holden)
Hope this helps!

Wonder is this the family you are looking for?
Lawrence Holden, Ballyhale married Catherine Keenan , Knocktopher. Co . Kilkenny... Their daughter Johanna Holden 5 December (1857- 1909) married Michael Hanrahan (5/11/1850 - 1905) of Blackstone Bridge, Kells, Co Kilkenny.
The Holden family were evicted and went to Chapel Hill. This probably happened after Johanna married Michael Hanrahan. because Michael raised his family in Ballyhale..

Hi John
I am researching my mother's Dalton line and it seems that there are several links to the Holden family...Bridget ( B 19/6/1845 D 13/04/1911 ) married John Dalton..and then her father David married a Raftis which is also connected to the Dalton family.
Would love to compare with what you have!
