Hi,

I am looking for Nathaniel Gifford married to Ann Gifford and their daughter Clara Fortune Gifford (1839 Devon).

There are no Giffords called Nathanial or Clara on the 1851 and the Ann Giffords do not have husbands and children with those names.

Just one last try

Nathaniel could have died by this time, if there are no daughters called Clara she might be down as Clare F Gifford or something like this.

She may also be related to a Catherine Gifford.

same goes for 1841 I am afraid John. These people just do not appear on the Devon Census for 1841 and 1851. I did find this in my travels though  ???

Thanks that could be them. I just assumed they would be in Devon because that was where Clara was born but they could have moved.

Hi John

My mum was interested in family history and I was Googling family names for fun when I saw your post.  I contacted my mum's cousin and she sent me this reply:

From my memory Clara Fortune Gifford (my Great Grandmother) was the lady who
walked from Devon to London to find work/her fortune!! My Dad remembers his
Grandmother quite clearly and thinks he has a copy of her birth certificate
somewhere. Clara certainly had a son called George (my Grandad's brother).

Other members of my family have a quite extensive family tree - I can find out more if it helps you.  Clara was the daughter of Ann Russ and Nathanial Gifford, and our branch of the family descended from Clara's daughter who married a Turner.
