Hi, I've come to a complete stop on the family history trail at on Hugh Alens (just one of any variant spellings i've come across), born Bury in 1535 and buried in Radclifee in 1611.
If anyone knows or has any info on the mysterious (sir) Hugh Allens, thank you.

Hugh had a daughter Anna
baptised at the above church
24th August 1576, and plenty of other children, I do not see him called Syr Hughe Alens until January 1601, when he buries his daughters, and he dies after them, December

Yeah, its him...but i cant find anything other than the kids. Where exctly do you see him called SYR Hugh alens. Thanks, by the way.

The name seems popular in the area , as there are church records for Alys Allence daughter of James in 1564 so possibly a brother to Hugh

No Lancashire opc site its free and has much more detail than pay to view site, but of course it is transcribed by fantastic volunteers ;D, so you don't get the original without going to the archives,

Issabell Alence married Thomas Smythe in 1561
Expofer was probably a short way of writing Christopher (X = Christ).
Cateren would be Catherine.

Was this a son of his? Baptism 23rd March 1583/4 St Mary, Radcliffe, Edward Alens, son of Hugh Alens.
There was also Edward Alence, son of Andrue Alence baptised at same church 1576.
3 Edward Alens/Allence/Allins marriages, Prestwich, Bury and Radclife, 1604/5, 1610, 1614.

Was he not mentioned in any histories of Bury or Radcliffe?
A quick glance at Visitation books didn't turn him or his family up. Did he have a surviving son? King James visited Lancashire during first 2 decades of 17thC. A son & heir, if still alive, would have been presented to the king or been mentioned somewhere, with his pedigree. The king was handing out knighthoods to any man eligible.

Might it be snr not syr and just a way of differentiating between two Hugh's perhaps father and son? I see Ancestry just has the transcription with a name nothing else.

A family named Allen living in *Redvales, was mentioned in "A History of the County of Lancaster", Victoria County History volume 5 pp128-133. Townships: Bury

Footnote 41 says that Captain John Allen was summoned by the Herald for the Visitation of Lancashire 1664/5. Pedigree in Raines manuscript (Chetham's Library)
The Radcliffe pages of "A History of the County of Lancashire" list an Allen among the principal inhabitants. (See footnote 66 on Radcliffe pages)
There were 4 Heralds' Visitations to Lancashire: 1533, 1567, 1613 and 1664-5. Texts of 1567 and 1613 Visitations are on Internet Archive.

John Allen of *Reddivalls appears in 1664-5 Visitation in Allen of Broughton pedigree as husband of Anne, daughter of Isaac Allen of Prestwich. Isaac was a younger son of William Allen of Sheldon, Warwickshire. I couldn't find John Allen's own pedigree to see if he was any relation to Hugh Allen.
*Redvales is situated between Bury and Radcliffe.

The Lancashire Parish Register Society published the Radcliffe Parish records in their volumes numbers 60 and 61, I don't know where you reside but many Libraries hold copies for you to look at. I have copies which I can look at for you If you have particular entries you want to see. You can buy them but they are like 'hens teeth', not many about and quite expensive.

Syr Hugh Alens had 6 Children, Doryty b.1566, Willyam b. 1570. Marye b. 1572 d. 1601, Anna b. 1576 d. 1601, Martha b. 1580, Edward b. 1583 married Mary Wood 27 Oct1614.
