I wrote, Sunday 12 June 11 23:38 BST (UK) - I have my grandmother's grandmother's album of some 200 Cartes de Visite, with not very many of them identified. I have scanned the empty pages, and front & back of each card.
"It would be nice" to have some dates (from the fashions) and estimated ages, i.e. dates of birth - and names, should you know them.
Also something (ANYthing) about the photographer - which might give a clue to the date / age / identity.
I'm posting the lo-res versions, so please don't bother to try to improve them.
I am gathering the comments to store in a file alongside the pictures, and, when finished, it will be quite a task to analyse them all and draw deductions as to the identity of some currently unknown.

Here's Page 34, which only has one "Carte de Visite" as such - the other three pix are "scenes", which it would be nice to have identified.

Here is 34A, The "Old" Bridge at Burton-upon-Trent (I believe).

And 34B - I have not the slightest idea of where this is ! And the back of the pic ain't much help, either ! :-(

AND - 34C. Again, I have NO idea where this is ! AND the back don't help !

And finlly, 34D - and THIS I know ! Because it is one of the few identified ! THIS is Martha Hammond Thornewill (of Burton-upon-Trent) nee Wright (of Eyam), my father's mother's father's mother. Born Sheffield, 1806. married Robert Thornewill (1799-1858), Eyam, 22 Apr. 1840; died Burton, Apr 1889.
But when was the pic taken? Anything else ?

Is "anything known" about Green & Sons who made the card? I imagine the card was bought from a shop in perhaps Derby ?

I would say that last pic is 1860's, probably mid 60's as the studio wasn't founded until 1863. Like many early photographers Alfred William Cox was an artist originally, though he also sold artist's supplys. He began working as a photographer at this address in 1863 but moved from Nottingham in 1876. His wife and sons and daughters carried on the business until 1893. Apparently the studio during his time 'had a first class reputation and produced photographs of excellent quality'.
