Title: Marriage information
Post by: ART2012 on Friday 07 February 14 02:04 GMT (UK)
Hi

When the bride has been married before will it be her previous married name that is shown in the Parish records?

Great x 3 grandfather married a widow in 1803 Lincolnshire.  I've just seen the record in Lincstothepast.  I then went hunting for her baptism record but the name isn't showing in the parish for that year.  Suddenly dawned that the surname for the marriage may not be her maiden name.

Am I on the right track?  There is a child baptised that year with her first name so maybe that is her.

Thanks

Yes - She would usually marry using her previous husband's surname.   Can you find her previous marriage, possibly using the child's name you found that matches her birth year?

Her age may not be correct at her marriage, so the birth year may different than the one you are looking at. There is also the possibility that she was born/baptised in a different parish.

Thanks Kay and Youngtug for your replies.

Marriage record doesn't show any age, but does state she was a Widow.  I think I have tracked down her burial record and this does have an age on it .  So if the age is correct, the corresponding birth year would be 1777.

I have hunted using the name of the child born that year and found a marriage which at first glance looked promising.  Then I saw that the children born in that marriage were after she would have married my Great x 3 grandfather.

Youngtug, I agree that she may have been born in a different parish.  I had searched in the parish she was married in.

I did find a death in the parish under first husband surname, age was 61 need to check this one out abit more, but it might be a red herring.

Thanks

The same applies to death registration, the age can be different to what it was believed to have been. Not helpful.
