I am having trouble pinning down the early life of a relative in my tree.
Her name is Bertha Roeber/Roeba COMRIE and she was born abt 1914. She had a daughter called Pauline in 1936 and a son in 1938 called Angus McGregor COMRIE. Both children were adopted.
Bertha Married Lionel MOBBS in 1941 Willesden. Lionel was a greengrocer and had a shop in Cricklewood. He died in 1971.
On the marriage certificate Bertha's father was listed as John COMRIE and he was a deceased Millwright.
I have searched on Ancestry and freebmd and nothing is coming up regarding Bertha's birth or death and there is nothing regarding her father or a marriage for him. I was wondering if she was originally from Scotland because of her COMRIE name and that of her son Angus. I also think that she was connected to a company in Dumfries-shire at some point. The company, A E Jackman (holdings) has since dissolved in the 1970s. Hence why I am looking in Dumfries area.
Is Bertha short for another name?

There is a 1913 birth record for Bertha Roeber Comrie in the Langholm area of Dumfriesshire showing up on Scotlands People

The marriage for Bertha's parents I think was showing for 1904 in Dunfries.
I wonder about this entry as a possibility for John Comrie, Bertha's father. Note the name of a sibling, Angus McGregor Comrie.

Thanks Monica, Jenny contacted me thru Ancestry and I suggested she tried Roots. I was a bit slow and she beat me to it :D Really pleased she has managed to get a result as it can be so frustrating when you try hard and get nothing back with searches. I can PM her direct. Thanks again everyone :D

Just looking at this, is it a census? I wonder if the Roeber, McGregor and White middle names are grandparent's names as they all seem to have odd middle names?
Intrestingly, there is a villiage called Comrie just down the road from Crieff ;D

The young Lizzie Comrie, on this census aged 6 years, was actually born Lizzie Fotheringham, 5/May/1874. to Isabella Fotherington, Closeburn, Dumfries, then Peter Comrie, married Isabella Fotheringham, about a year later.

The death date you gave for Bertha Roeba Mobbs/Comrie, 1988, age 74 years, her mothers name is Morrison, on that index, which concurs with marriage information on your earlier post.
Almost certainly the correct lady given the names concerned.

I would think there could be a will because her husband Lionel Mobbs was a fruitier and greengrocer in Cricklewood. Bertha was a chairman, A E Jackman (holdings) Ltd but it was dissolved abt the time of his death. Maybe the company was in connection with Lionel's business? A search for the company revealed it was based north of Moffatt.

It looks like a lot of the middle names in this family work in very well, if we take for example Willis, as a middle name also sometimes as a first name then Fotheringham, Milligen.
Isabella Fotheringham, who married Peter Comrie, her parents were Willis Fotheringham, and Jane Milligen, its all out there and very interesting families.
The 1881 census for,
Auldgirth Station,
Closeburn, Dumfries,
Willis B. Fotheringham, Head, Railway Station Master, M. age 56 years, M. born Irvine, Ayr,
Jane Fotheringham, Wife, Housekeeper, M. age 55 years, F. born Irvine, Ayr,
Elizabeth Fotheringham, Daur, Station Master Dau, U. age 17 years, F. born Irvine.
The above Willis Balshillie Fotheringham, born 24/Dec/1824. Irvine, Ayr, to parents Richard Fotheringham, and Isabella Dunlop.
Of course the only way to prove beyond doubt is to purchace the death certificate of Bertha Roeber Comrie, aka Mobbs, and conclude that her parents were indeed John Comrie, and Jane Richardson Morrison, and the wife of Lionel Mobbs.

I have repeated that particular search four times over the past two days and the mothers surname is coming up as Morrison, exact spelling is required in mothers surname box.
Betha Roebe* Comrie, aka Mobbs, aka Marsh, 1988, age 74 years, Dumfries.
By that period ie 1988, mothers surnames were on the search index on Scotlandspeople.

Don't think we're the same Comrie family but I have a James Comrie born 1896 at 105,King Street, Perth. His father was John Comrie 1874-1955. Interesting even if we're not related.
