Hi Sandra, many thanks for that, just got the free credits ;D I used to use it on a pay as you go format but for some reason the site no longer accepts my type of debit card (maestro).
Many thanks again,
Frank.

Thanks Sandra
Congratulations, you've just successfully activated your 50 free PayAsYouGo credits! They'll expire after 90 days, so make sure you get full use out of them.

I keep collecting these Free Credits even though I've got a sub. I've now got 199 ::) How am I ever supposed to use them? FindMyPast even states that if you have a sub you can sign in and claim the free credits, so they must expect you to use them for something.

I use Free Credits to look at the records on the Worldwide database....mainly Australia or Canada as I only have a sub for British records.

Registered for the 50 free credits this afternoon (no problems), searched for some records then went through my notes to check some details. Logged back in to get a few of the new Indian records that I want- only to find my account doesn't show any credits (tried again but said I'd already used the offer). Have sent customer support an email asking what's going on :-\

The only place I'm interested in is Ireland and I've not found anything on FindMyPast that's relevant - so far, I live in hope.
-
Lizzie- the Irish records has here but don't get too excited:
http://www.findmypast.ie/
The Irish civil registration index they have is free on www.familysearch.org or on Ancestry (subscription). Other databases may also be available elsewhere.
-
Thanks for the this. I'm collecting credits in anticipation of when they may launch the New South Wales Probate records that was advertised a while back as have quite a few sidelines who went there. ;) Like Nannyjan, I've a UK sub so use them for worldwide. Mind you some of mine date back to when it was 1837online and you could only purchase credits. ;D
-
Thanks for this link got mine too

aghadowey - Unfortunately, I can't use my existing FindMyPast sub or even the free credits on FindMyPast.ie. Familysearch doesn't have the chap I'm looking for. He was in Liverpool in 1841, married in Liverpool in 1849 and in Manchester with his wife in 1851, and a daughter was born in 1852, but he disappears mid 1850s when his name is in a Trade Directory. His wife had an illegitimate child in Manchester in 1862. No father's name on birth certificate, but the mothr gives her status as widow.
Until I come into a fortune - not at all likely - I will have to let this one lie. The man was my OH's 2 x g.grandfather and with a common Irish name, I'd have to purchase about 2 dozen certificates to try to find his death.
Thanks for your help.
Lizzie
I've managed to look at a man of the right name and approx age on an Irish site, via Ancestry, so thanks for that tip. Unfortunately, it is not the right person.
-
Did he die in Ireland, Lizzie?

Free Credits usually have an expiry date - but the pleasure can be in helping others, if you can't help yourself, which is what I tend to use mine for. ;D

That's a shame, hope it is resolved. If not perhaps other members of the family would like to register and help you out with there free credits :P
Or your quite welcome to use mine, just give a shout and will send details. ;)

I LOVE ROOTSCHAT!!!
Thank you Sandra and all you helpful people
out there for pointing us to free records/credits etc :D :D :D
-
Many thanks Sandra. My credits say they will expire on 15th May so presumably its 3 months shelf life..... if they last that long. :) I know what I'm going to be doing this weekend now :)

The NSW probate records are indexed here http://www.records.nsw.gov.au/ and I go there every so often to photograph the records for rootschatters. I may not get there for a week or so (feeling guilty as I was hoping to go earlier but ... :( )
Let me know if you see any records you want photographed. :)
cheers,
Ros
Off to get my free credits ;D Thanks Sandra :)
Or why not post on the Oz board - perhaps we can find death notices etc. There are lots of clever rootschatters there (as well as an old klutz who tries to photograph old probate records ;D )

Just went back to check and my first ones expire 29th June 2014 - really strange. ??? The others are 90 days from the day you submit hence today 16th May 2014

Thanks Sandra, just got them and have solved a mystery already!
-
Sandra, I tried to claim them but it said if I had taken advantage of a free introductory offer before then I was ineligible for this offer.
Thanks though for letting us know.

It does say that, Judy, but I've had free credits in the past and it still let me take the offer. Give it a try, you've got nothing to lose and 50 free credits to [possibly] gain.

Thanks STG but I just tried again and when I click on Claim Free Credits, as instructed, it just takes me to my home page - I am already registered with FindMyPast. I cannot see anywhere to enter the code "TASTER".
It's just thrown me out now as the site is unusually busy. ::) ::)
Judy

Just figured it out. ::) I had to register again and then entered the code. Sorry and thanks to you both.

It's a great offer...when you can get on without being told it's busy ::)

All I did was click on the link from the first page of this thread, then at the bottom of the first para, it has a link "Claim Free Credits". It does say that it's an introductory free credit code and if you've already claimed an introductory credit in the past, you won't be able to use this offer. I guess the fact that I have a sub with FindMyPast but have never had an introductory credit, means I was allowed to claim these credits. I'm not sure what the other credits are that I've claimed in the past.

I have had free credits in the past but it still worked for me so still worth a try ;D
Milly

So have I and it works for me.
Carol

Well my credits didn't last long...I only appeared to have done half a dozen searches...the format has changed and by the time I had found the newspaper obit I wanted the credits had run out ::)
Oh well.
Carol
-
Thought I had replied on the topic but can't see one here, so...
FindMyPast replied very quickly and said I'd already used the free credits and could check my search history which I then did. The site, as Treetotal has also mentioned, had changed its format since I'd used it quite some time ago and apparently what I thought were 'free' searches were actually using up my free credits. Much prefer the sort of site that say 'this will cost you X credits, do you wish to continue?' ???
Oh, well. At least I didn't pay for those 'lost' credits ::)
-
Thanks Sandra and everyone for your tip.
I couldn't get them as I had them before so I logged in on my OH email ;)
Naughty I know but it is his family i'm researching ;D

Hi
That suggests that you have used the credits, I have unused credits and they show as 70 remain. If you are sure that you never used them check again in case it was a temporary glitch and if it still shows that 0 remain, contact FindMyPast

Hi,
Two e mails later.
Dear Andrew,
"Thank you for your email.
I have located these missing credits and have added them into your account for you.
There are now 50 credits there and they are valid until the 30th May.
Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience."
