Title: Help locating burial at Trealaw/Llethrddu Cemetery c.1891
Post by: jimobrien on Monday 17 February 14 04:30 GMT (UK)
Hello. I need some help locating Michael Joseph O'Brien that I believe was buried at Trealaw/Llethrddu Cemetery. His parents, Michael and Catherine O'Brien, were living in Tonypandy between 1890-1905. Michael, the father, is buried at Trealaw (died 1904).

The child, Michael Joseph was born 28 Sept. 1890 in Tonypandy, and Died 29 April 1891 in Tonypandy. The family was Catholic. I have a list of O'Brien burials at Trealaw but he is not listed among them and I've noticed that there aren't any with dates earlier than 1894. Something seems wrong with that as I am told burials started there in 1882.

The family moved to Tonypandy from Hopkinstown about 1889. I have also been unable to locate the burial of another of their sons with the same name, Michael Joseph O'Brien, who was born on 23 Sept 1874, with the address of Gyfeillion, Llantrisant. He does not appear with the family by the 1881 census where they are residing in Hopkinstown. His burial is unknown.

I was able to locate their children, Patrick Lee O'Brien, died 1879, buried at St. Gwynno Church, and Thomas David, died 1894, buried at St. David's in Hopkinstown.

Any help or suggestions is much appreciated. Jim O'Brien

Thanks for looking! The first Michael you've listed is my great-great grandfather. The thing is, the list I have for Trealaw doesn't show any burial earlier than 1898, but they started earlier. I'm wondering if there are missing years?

The Trealaw Cemetery began in 1881. A cd of the registers can be purchased from the Glamorgan FHS

Welcome to Rootschat

There are a number of William John Williams in area around same age.

The burial number is 37740 plot V791 died 1929 age 41 William John Williams.

https://www.rctcbc.gov.uk/EN/Resident/Libraries/Librarylocationsandopeninghours/PontypriddLibrary.aspx

I would contact Pontypridd FH Library via email if not local, and ask for the internment record, also ask if any others are in same plot.  This may help with address, next of kin, others in plot to help narrow down on census if poss. Quote plot & burial number.
