I am trying a new approach here now - all these names and places ( Bjork, Seiwert, Yeoman, Collis, Beveridge in Connecticut and Maine) all come up in my search for any living relatives of my gt grandfather David Beveridge of Hartford Connecticut. So if anyone recognises them please give me a message!!
Thanks,
-
Perhaps if we work forward as far as we can with the families there would be a likely hood of someone picking the thread up on google ? Or someone picking up obituaries for the families.

Hi Sandra,
Thanks for the help.
Jennie's obituary : 1975 age 80 of Clinton formerly East Hartford. It mentions son Norman, daughter Evelyn Siewert and brother Thomas of Newington. Also four grandchildren. I have the names of grandchildren but don't think I can post as they may still be alive.
-
The daughter of Jennie may still be living, I haven't come across a death record for her which would mean you may have to remove her name. (no living people rule) Have you tried whitepages usa, spokeo, switchboard.com etc to see if you can find those grandchildren listed on the obituary?

Hi Sandra,
Sorry our posts crossed there. I only have two names for the grandchildren (sorry not the four as stated on the obit) both from Norman and both girls - assuming they married their names would have changed that's why i put the names on here as they are quite unusual. The other two are probably from Evelyn Seiwert as it looks like Robert Beveridge son of Thomas didn't marry and neither did Marjorie.
The name Seiwert seems to change quite a lot. Ralph S Bjork (Jennie's husband and father of Norman and Evelyn) died in 1983 and had lived in Moodus for the past 6 months. His daughter E***** also of Moodus.

There is a death for a David Merrow born 26 March 1953 and died 1 August 2013, this would be a son of the daughter of Ralph and Jenny (nee Beveridge) Bjork. Will send you the obit by pm

Fred I Collis was the husband of Elizabeth M Beveridge (daughter of David and Rachel - my ggrandfather). I have no obit for either only a 1930 census in Hampden Palmertown Mass. They have one son living with them Leonard but whether he is the only child i don't know. Fred is 42 and she is 40 on the census. It has also been spelled Collins.
Yeoman was the surname of Jennie Beveridge (David's sister) They are on the 1910 census with daughter Dorothy in Berkshire Mass. She married John C Yeoman. No obits for any of them yet.
I have an obit for Allan - he lived in Toledo Ohio and died aged 44 as you said. His wife was Jessie Griggs (forgot to put that name in) one daughter Jeane.

That's a great bit of detective work there Sandra! Seems like they only had Leonard after all. The American directories do seem to give you a lot of information. You are a star. It's good to find out what happened to them - the wonders of technology. Thanks again.

You're very welcome. It is amazing how many times people "google" and are directed to rootschat -lots of people of made contact this way. Hope you are lucky.

Hi Sandra,
Great work with the Yeoman family - thanks. I will have to print it out after i have digested it all!
I had sort of came to a dead end with Jennie - the only info i found on her was the 1910 census in North Adamson Berkshire. She was living with John, Dorothy and her mother Jane Beveridge. They must have moved and at the time i had so many leads to follow she probably slipped down the list.
I had great success with a librarian in East Hartford so i maybe will contact a librarian in Williamstown.
It was great to find Jane Beveridge on the census - she was my gt gt grandmother - and had left Scotland along with children David,Thomas,George,Jane(Jennie) and Catherine (Katie). Her husband Thomas(their father) drowned in 1883 off the Bay of Biscay while working as a seaman. Whether they left because of this i am not sure. Thomas and George are both together on a ship in 1882,and David in 1887 sailing to Boston. Jane and the two girls turn up in 1900 in Adams. Jennie 22 and Katie 19. I can't find Katie again after this. I also never found Thomas which is why i started these postings. I hope it is not too confusing!!
-
I also wrote away for David Beveridge's death cert - he died in 1946 in East Hartford age 82 (but really 84). Informant was Mrs Ralph Bjork.
His mother Jane Beveridge married again (No details of the marriage) to William Booth. I got this information from Death cert. She died 16/06/1911 aged 64 her address is North Adams Mass. Place of burial Southview N.Adams. Informant Mrs Charles Yeoman.
I suppose it will always niggle at me why they picked Boston to emigrate. It could have been someone in her family. Her name was Jane Mitchell before her marriage to Thomas in 1862 in Bridgeton Glasgow. Her father was Daniel Mitchell (cotton spinner) and Mary Mitchell.
I can go back to 1715 by documents for the Beveridges. A marriage between John Belfrage and Janet Bell in Inverkeithing Fife.

Had a reply from the Williamstown Library today re obituary for Jennie Beveridge Yeoman as follows
Unfortunately, we are only 15 years old and have been posting obituaries since about 2000.
If she was living in Williamstown, the obituary may have been published in the North Adams Transcript or The Berkshire Eagle of Pittsfield. The Transcript was recently closed and merged with the Eagle. They do not have anything online past about 2000 either, but you might come across an obituary through one of the online genealogy or old newspaper sites.
Another possibility is the North Adams Public Library or the Milne Public Library in Williamstown. I know they offer some genealogy help in-house but not how much long distance help they do.
Good luck in your search,
-
I found an obituary for Jennie's daughter Dorothy in the North Adams Transcript & Berkshire Eagle, but nothing for Jennie as of yet. I'll send you a PM with the information about Dorothy's survivors.

I would like to thank all the people who helped me in my quest to find my lost relations in the USA.
Sorry it has taken me so long to post on this subject, the reason being that I decided to write to the person in question (she is still alive so i will not be naming her). I found her name and address on the white pages and tried to make the letter as simple as i could. I was not holding out much hope for a reply. I included a copy of the birth certificate as proof of my findings.. I included in my letter my address, phone no and Facebook details. After about 2 weeks i received a message in my Facebook box from her grandson. He is 30 and has a brother of 27 (more or less the same age as my kids). He says he is delighted to find out about family living in the UK. I filled him in about my life and he is now a Facebook "friend". He said his dad and his grandmother would be in touch via email.
I had a lovely email from his dad - and then only 3 weeks ago i had an email from my gt grandfather's grand daughter. She explained that it took her a while to fully digest the letter . She told me what he was like and a bit about his life as he lived with them until he died. As you can imagine i was delighted to hear these snippets about someone i had only known through records and certificates. I have been filling her in slowly with the info i have and to where the Beveridge family originated. So a good result all round - thanks to everyone here.
I also passed on details of the Bjork member that got in touch with me. They were delighted with yet another family connection.
It pays to persevere in the genealogy search. I have been looking for this connection for nearly 10 years!
All the best to everyone,
Ailsa

Hi Sandra,
I see you're online, and I was trying to reach "Crayspond". I just happened to come upon this site and saw she was looking for Bjork family members. I am one of them! My father was Norman R. Bjork. My grandparents were Ralph and Jennifer Bjork, and my aunt was Evelyn Siewert. I would love to get in touch with her. It seems she's not online often from what I can tell. I am new to this site. I was shocked someone was looking for members of my family. Any help is appreciated. My married name is Linda Graham.

Hi Linda,
Norman Bjork was my mother's cousin. Their fathers, Ralph and Irving Carl, were brothers.

Is it possible that Ralph and Jennie Bjork's "daughter" Dorothy, mentioned in these messages was really Norman's cousin Dorothy Bjork, daughter of Otto Bjork? I always believed that Otto's daughter Dorothy (b. 02-06-1903 In NH) lived with Ralph Bjork and the rest of the extended Bjork family at 30 Hamilton St in Hartford after Otto's wife died and Otto and children moved to Hartford. Is this possible or am I confusing two different Dorothys?

Hi shshome,
This is news to me - I have the census with Jennie and John Yeoman also Dorothy as daughter but her age is hard to decipher its either 3,5 or 8. That could fit in with your Dorothy. The answer would be to look for a birth cert for Dorothy mother Jennie Yeoman father John Yeoman. Unfortunately i don't have ancestry at the moment maybe someone could help?

I did find a birth record for Dorothy Mitchell Yeoman, daughter of John and Jennie Yeoman, born Dec 24, 1906, in North Adams , Massachusetts. This must be your Dorothy.

At least you can rule that out now. I have sent you a pm. :)
