Hi
I have just wasted a stack load of credits on Scotlands People trying to pick my ancestors up on the 1911 census, not sure why as got lots of accurate perimeters entered on the search boxes.
The names are Thomas McCall (b.1856 Ayr) and either Jane, Jean or Jeanie his wife (nee Boyle).
I have reason to believe that they lived at 66 Prince Edward Street as I have got them there on the 1901 census and the address appears on one of their childrens marriage certificates dated 1914.
However just cannot seem to pick them up, which is proving costly and frustrating!
Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi,
have you tried this one?
1911 MCCALL THOMAS M 52 AYR /AYR 578/01 009/00 015
a bit younger than your Thomas, but they were never accurate on ages

Thanks for suggestion just checked the record but not them, good candidate though.
Maybe they were on vacation in 1911! :-\

Hi Tom 23.
Is Prince Edward Street in Ayr? I'm not sure where that is/was?
Or is it in Glasgow?
Looby :)

Hi Looby - it was Govan in 1901 - can't find them in 1911 yet though :-\

Thanks Gadget.
The reference to Ayr confused me - and I'm easily confused today :P - as I'd never heard of that street.

Sorry, yes should have said 66 Prince Edward Street Glasgow!

Thank you, much appreciated.
Thomas McCall died in 1935 and his address is 66 Prince Edward Street even then, so seem pretty settled there.
Must be an administrative error at the time maybe, annoying! :(

101 High St, Ayr
Thomas McCall 35
Jean McCall 37
Jessie McCall 10
Anthony McCall 8 b Girvan
Jeanie McCall 5 B Ayr

Thanks I'll have a look.
Family could for some inexplicable reason could be visiting different places at the time of the Census. Happened to me when searching for a branch of my family on 1891 and found then scattered over Renfrewshire, Lanarkshire and Ayrshire - I'd expected to find them all in Paisley! - mum and 2 youngest were visiting 2 people in Lanarkshire - They were not related to the people and I still don't know why they were there.
Looby :)

Grasping at a straw here!
There is a Thomas Call aged 54 on the 1911 at Govan. Lanarkshire. But I think he's alone :-\

Tom, in the other thread that the Moderator has locked to prevent duplication of effort, you ask about lists of people emigrating.
Nobody actually kept such lists in any systematic way. For a start, there was free movement to and from England, Wales and Ireland, not forgetting the Isle of Man and Channel Islands, of which there would have been no records.
As for emigrating overseas, the authorities in the UK were not really interested in recording who was leaving the country. You have to rely on the countries they emigrated to for records of emigrants.

Hi Tom,
Not sure if you are still looking but think you will find the family listed under McColl in Glasgow City, Pollockshields. Address as expected 66 Prince Edward Street.
