I know I get confused all the time which county Bristol ends up in. I think at some point it was a county in it's own right. :-\

In 1859 Bristol came under Gloucestershire and later (1974) under Avon.

As you can now buy the M/C to confirm their Fathers names/occp's I will post this in case it is Sarahs Baptism;
Sarah LOVELL, 07 Nov 1824, Bedminster-St John the Baptist Bt, Bristol, Somerset
Parents, THOMAS/MARTHA
Fathers Occp Skinner
Abode West Street
She seems to be the only Child Baptised there to them.

Historically in Gloucestershire, the city received a Royal charter in 1155 and was granted County status in 1373.
Unfortunately some organisations (like the Association of British Counties) have never recognised this fact! >:(
Every day, commuting to work, I passed signs saying "Welcome to the City and County of Bristol"!
Parts of what is now Bristol, south of the River Avon, were historically part of Somerset: Bedminster, Brislington and so forth.
