I am helping a friend with his family history.
His Grandfather Patrick Columbus Mooney was born 1904 Killybegs to Charles & Mariane.
I found the family in 1911 which showed father Charles as follows
1911 census address Killybegs, Donegal age 46 Blacksmith (Roman Catholic)
married 9 years 7 children 3 living
1901 information
1901 census address Fintragh Road, Killybegs, Donegal age 36 Blacksmith Servant (Roman Catholic)
I am trying to find a birth & marriage for Charles. Can anyone help please

A Mary Anne McHugh age 21 at Black Lane in 1901 in keeping local but you will have to wait to see cert.

Thank you both for the replies. Particularly for the McHughes information.
Have you any idea where I can look up the birth of Charles to confirm his parents. There seems to be two Charles Mooney births between 1863 and 1868

Hi rathmore
Thanks for the census records. I had the 1901 & 1911 for Charles. I think Mariane is actually Mary Ann. I could not find a marriage for a Charles & Mariane, but did note the marriae to a Mary Ann McHugh.
Also thanks for the link to Killybegsonline.
I will take a look at that

Thank you for the link. I tried it but it takes me to the Home page and I can't find the entry

I presume it is a baptism but whose is it and what page is it on.
sorry to be so dense.

I've just noticed this query about Charles Mooney, a bit late I know(new to this forum). Did you find what you wanted to know about him? I'm married to one of his descendants (if it's Charles the blacksmith you were researching) and I'm pretty sure we have a copy of his marriage certificate. He moved to Killybegs from near the border area of Derry and Muff. He got married in St. Patrick's RC church, Iskaheen.
I'd be interested in hearing any other information you've come across about this branch of the Mooney family.

The 1901 marriage record for Charles Mooney and Mary Anne McHugh indicates that the groom's father was a mason called James Mooney and the marriage and census records suggest a birth year for Charles of c. 1865-69. The following baptism of a Charles Mooney for parents James Mooney and Mary McBride on 26 March 1865 in Iskaheen RC parish is a possibility (halfway down right page):
https://registers.nli.ie/registers/vtls000633050#page/13/mode/1up
Here is the relevant civil birth registration, the address given as Lenamore:
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/birth_returns/births_1865/03585/2321528.pdf
A James Mooney of Lenamore married a Mary Ann McBride of Doe Castle on 20 May 1864 in Iskaheen RC Church, bachelor James was a labourer, the son of Patrick Mooney who was a mason, spinster Mary Ann was a servant, the daughter of Neil McBride who was a tailor, a John and Mary McCarron were the witnesses.

The 1901 marriage record for Charles Mooney and Mary Anne McHugh indicates that the bride's father was a car driver called Charles McHugh and the marriage and 1911 census records suggest a birth year for Mary Anne of c. 1879-80.
As previously mentioned in this topic, a family shown by the 1901 census living in Black Lane, Killybegs looks promising, here is the link for convenience:
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Donegal/Killybegs/Black_Lane/1180689/
Tracing the births of the children shown in the above census return indicates the couple to be Charles McHugh and Mary Gillespie, here is the birth of their daughter Mary Anne at Killybegs in 1876:
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/birth_returns/births_1877/03023/2107771.pdf
Here is the marriage of Charles McHugh and Mary Gillespie in 1870:
