Title: Free Avast 2014 and Windows 8.1

Before I try and download Free Avast 2014 to my son's laptop which is running Windows 8.1 I would be pleased to know if anyone has done this and were there any problems.

Another question - would you rely on Windows Defender as your only protection, from what I have read it is not sufficient.

I dont know about that one, but I've got the free AVG on mine with Windows 8.1 and had no problems.

Thank you groom.  Will see if there are any more comments but AVG will be my second choice.

I have had Avast on several PC's, only for XP however but my son has Windows 8.1 with Avast. So far we have had no problems.
I did use AVG previously but gave up on it after several false positives caused it to delete files or refuse to allow me to install programs.
