Title: Looking for a grave in Nottingham
Post by: Quiller on Thursday 20 March 14 18:48 GMT (UK)
Have not posted for a while so please excuse me if this is in the wrong place. Looking for a grave in a Nottingham Cemetery (no idea which one) of a Bertha Tutin nee: Needham died Mar qtr 1936 aged 39.
It is believed she took her own life, would that mean unconsecrated ground ?

Appreciate any help. Thank you

Hi Quiller

From experience, the best thing you can do is get the death cert so that you have an exact date of death and then contact the cemeteries department at Nottingham council and ask them if they can tell you where she is buried.

If she did die in unusual circumstances her death might have been registered sometime after the event.

With an area the size of Nottingham, the cemeteries office may be unable or unwilling to help without that date and her last known address.

Hi Quiller,

I'm not sure if you've come across the newspaper article related to Bertha's death (Extract below). It is available on FindMyPast with a subscription but as I only have access to Irish records I can't open it.  While it may not give you the cemetery, it does give you her last address and the date. Sadly, it looks like Bertha gassed herself using the oven.

GAS OVEN SUICIDE.
SHOCK FOR ASPLEY HUSBAND. The story ot early morning tragedy i n 'Aspley home was told at Nottingham'inquest yesterday, on Bertha Tutin, 39, of 74, Raven drive, Aspley. who died from gas poisoning Tutin printer, said he went to bed 10.30 p.m. on Saturday
