Christina   21 Isabella   13
Elizabeth  11 And Alexandra Peace 8
Son James 15

Just found a Martha Thompson sailing from Glasgow 21.10.1916
But she is showing as a H/Wife sailing on The Cassandra aged 29
No James Lyall on the ship

Snap - that's the one I was looking at when I asked the date of marriage.  Regardless of her status - I don't think that ship would have got to Canada in time for her to marry on 13/11

Looks like they moved to California:

Name: Martha Lyall
Birth Year: abt 1888
Birthplace: England
Home in 1930: Los Angeles, Los Angeles, California
Household Members:
  James Lyall  48
  Martha Lyall  42
  Robert G Lyall  12
  Lillian Lyall  7

Same family in 1940 census too.  You should also find a naturalisation petition for James which provides enough information to confirm its the same people.

Also their crossing from Canada to US:

Name:  Martha Lyall
Birth:  1888 - England
Departure:  Vancouver, British Columbia
Arrival:  Aug 1923 - Seattle, Washington
(James & children also)

Hi
Just for the sake of accuracy in your records, shouldn't the heading of your post have been "Should this post be Northumberland or Canada?" given that Spittal is in England?  :)

That's a thought  Imber

Maybe its because I spent a lot of my childhood at Spittal and the address at this  time comes under Berwick upon Tweed still have my brother living there .

I have to admit the postings last night just were remarkable to me who knows someone in the USA might pick something up  ???and help me further
Thanks again

Elizabeth

PS looking at the photo Margaret look a little like my Nana she was another Martha Thompson cousin to Margaret Lyall nee Thompson

In reply 7 it gives the find a grave entry for Margaret Lyall Shepek - if yuou click on the link - there was a photograph of Margaret and a detailed obituary.  Using the names in the obituary and http://www.whitepages.com/ you should be able to locate those family members.

Hi,

I was reading this post and I live in BC and I am from the Borders.

I looked up your 1916 marriage at St Alban's church Ashcroft BC.

James was living at Hanceville, which is west of Williams Lake on Highway 20.
This is quite a long way from Aschcroft. Williams Lake and 100 Mile House
communities would have beeen closer to Lanceville.

He is listed as Baptist but married by an Angican cermony
Martha gave her address as Berwick on Tweed, suggesting she
was newly arrived.

I have a copy of the Marriage Jpg if you would like a copy.
send me a private message with your email address.
Yours Aye,

Angus
