Hi
Jane Braidwood Father John Braidwood) m. James McArthur 3 February 1838, Campsie, Stirling
ISSUE: Jane Livingstone McARTHUR 1838, Campsie
Jane Braidwood m. Charles Anderson 22 Nov 1844, Falkirk
ISSUE: Mary Jane ANDERSON 1847, Falkirk
According to the following - not the same woman.....
http://genforum.genealogy.com/mcarthur/messages/641.html
It says:
James McARTHUR b. 1 Feb 1818, Dunblane, Perth, Scotland.
Father: John McARTHUR , Mother: Elizabeth BRUCE.
Married: 3 Feb 1838 & 23 Feb 1838 at Campsie (Stirlingshire) and Rutherglen, Lanarkshire.

John Livingston McARTHUR b. 30 Dec 1844, Perth, & chr 17 Mar 1845, Middle Church, Perth
There are at least 2 other siblings.
James and Jane (Jean) McARTHUR emigrated to the US at some point around 1851 and perhaps settled in MA. The son, John Livingston McArthur, fought in the Civil War (North - think from MA). Married Francis (Fanny) Augusta BILES (b. 22 Feb. 1860 in Reading, Ohio) on 12 September 1877 in Lockland, Ohio. John Livingston McArthur died on 19 March 1930 in Reading, Ohio.
This could be the McARTHUR's in 1841:

Hi,
The second couple Charles Anderson and Jean/Jane Braidwood have a daughter Mary Jane on 27th Aug 1847 according to this entry on FamilySearch https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/XT2W-6VL
This could be mother and daughter on the 1851 Census
Falkirk, Carron Bridge
Jane Anderson Head M 27 Manglekeeper born Carron, Stirlingshire
Mary Jane Anderson Dau U 6 Scholar born Falkirk, Stirlingshire
No sign of Charles although the above Jane is recorded as married not widowed :-\
With Ambly's 1841 Census info it looks like the two Jane/Jean Braidwoods are different women.

Thank you for the replies. Is there any way that the two women are the same people?
As to Gail Wittich - we've been working on this item for a long time and neither she nor I can definitively state whether James was married to both women, or just one of them.

Good morning,
In my opinion there are 2 Jane/Jean Braidwoods.
This Jean Braidwood https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/XYQR-G7X is born in Larbet, Stirlingshire 18 Sep 1822 to John Braidwood and Jean Bell.
It looks like this girl has a twin sister Joan https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/XT2X-B4C
This appears to be the family on the 1841 Census -
Address, West Carron, Larbet, Stirlingshire
BRAIDWOOD John M 57 Fireman
BRAIDWOOD Jean F 18
BRAIDWOOD Joan F 18
BRAIDWOOD Robert M 14 Iron Founder Apprentice
BRAIDWOOD Agness F 3
All born Stirlingshire except John Braidwood (outside Cennsus County).
This Jane Braidwood is a good candidate for the Jane who marries Charles Anderson in 1847 and is on the 1851 with her daughter at Falkirk, Carron Bridge.
The other Jane/Jean Braidwood marries James McArthur in 1838 before the 1841 Census. The marriage is recorded in 2 Parishes Campsie and Rutherglen (as per Ambly's post). Her father is recorded as John Braidwood. She has two daughters prior to the 1841 Census.
Jane Livingston McArthur and Elizabeth Tannahill McArthur. I think the girls middle names could be significant. I wouldn't be surprised if this Jane Braidwood's mother was a Jane Livingston!
I can't find her birth but Ambly has already listed the McArthur family living in Kilmarnock Ayrshire on the 1841 .

Would draw your attention to this 1841 Census entry at Campsie Stirlingshire-
Address - Whitefield
Braidwood John M 45 Gardener Ag Labourer Outside Census County
Braidwood John M 15 Stirlingshire
Braidwood George M 15 Apprentice Wright Outside Census County
Braidwood James M 10 Stirlingshire
Braidwood William M 6 Stirlingshire
Braidwood Jane F 45 Outside Census County
Braidwood Agness F 20 Outside Census County
Braidwood Mary F 14 Stirlingshire
As you probably know, no relationships to other householders are recorded. The men have been listed before the women but I wonder if this is a family - the parents being John and Jane Braidwood. Could this be Jane/Jean McArthur's (ms Braidwood) family??
Looby :)

I thank you all for your replies!! I'm going to take the info and review it to make sure I understand it. If I have any further questions, I'll be sure to reach out.
Again, thanks!!
Bernie.

Need a bit more help on this. I'm pretty sure the parents of Jane are John Braidwood and Jane Drew. i've found a number of posts stating these are the parents; but with no sources for citation.
I've searched on FamilySearch and ScotlandsPeople but cannot find any birth records for Jane or any other children for these two.
Any sources would be appreciated.

There is a marriage on 13th Feb 1858 at Campsie, Stirlingshire of -
Alexander Dalglish Braidwood to Catharine Baxter - father's name John Braidwood , mother's name Jane Drew . Catherine's parents Andrew Baxter and mother Jean McAdam.
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XY74-J5S
This would mean Alexander would be the brother of the Jane Braidwood you are researching if indeed the above couple are her parents.

I've searched on FamilySearch and ScotlandsPeople

-
@Forfarian - thanks, but that didn't help at all. As I stated in my post, I did search through Scotland's People.
-
No; it was just intended to point out that if you have searched unsuccessfully in SP, you are unlikely to find it on FamilySearch.
-
Ahh ... thanks. I was hoping that someone else would have better luck with searching than I have.
