Title: Henry Foggon, Haddington.
Post by: lugworm on Sunday 30 March 14 20:28 BST (UK)
Hi.

My wife's father had a half brother who lived in Haddington called Henry Foggon.
My father in law was born in 1924, and we know that Henry was a bit older.

Are there still Foggons living in Haddington from this family ? We would love to find out, so if anybody can help it would be most appreciated.

We live in Alnwick, by the way.

Hi

Henry was b 1914 as per www.freebmd.org.uk/

He married in 1934 to Elizabeth A Gibson but I can't see any children born to them

Henry died in 1990 as per Scotlands People

There is one Foggon birth in 1939 but not in East Lothian/Haddington but I don't know whether it's a child of Henry & Elizabeth

As far as I'm aware, he never left Haddington.
He does have a sister, Ruth, who I've just been told lives somewhere in our area.

I've just looked that up, and it seems they were married in Alnwick!

Yes - that's why I only looked for childrens births in Northumberland at first.  No Foggon/Gibson births at all in any English/Welsh county

When Ev replied above - I suddenly realised you had posted on a Scottish board hence my last reply.

Birth registrations can only be downloaded up to 1913 so you would have to buy a copy of that 1939 birth cert to see if it was Henry's child

There are only 3 Foggon births on SP between 1934 and 1950 - none in Haddington or East Lothian

It may be that they lived somewhere else in Scotland initially then moved to Haddington

Right....

first of all, thanks for all your help..

Contact with my wife's older brother who lives in Malta has revealed that Henry was illegitimate.
He also seems to remember that Henry had two sons, but he doesn't know where or when.

This is at least something for me to get stuck into.

I would still like to know if there are any Foggons still in Haddington, so if anyone local knows, I would be very grateful for info.

Hi Lugworm,

Unscientific, but nearest Foggons I could find to Haddington in the BT Directory were 2 of them in Jedburgh in the Borders. G Foggon and R Foggon.

Cheers Tom.
Foggon doesn't seem to be a common surname in the borders then !

Another older relative has told me Henry had two sons, and at least one is still alive and living in or near Berwick !
Now I've got something to really get my teeth into.
