Title: Mary Frances Culmer Stupples - born Broadstairs 1811
Post by: mazzie74 on Monday 31 March 14 16:02 BST (UK)
Hi,
My 5 x Great Aunt, Mary Frances Culmer Stupples was born in Broadstairs, Kent on 1st May 1811.

She was baptised on 26th May 1811, also in Broadstairs.

Her parents were Richard Stupples (sometimes called Stupple or Stubbles) and Susannah Spratt.

Someone who has done the family tree years ago has stated that this Mary died in 1811, but I can't find a burial record for her.

There is a Mary Stupples that was buried in Dover in 1811, but there is no age for her. I doubt it is my Mary as the Stupples seemed to stay in Broadstairs and St Peters.

Can anybody find a possible death / burial of this Mary, or perhaps a marriage, and locate her in subsequent census records?

Thanks,

Darin.

There is a Mary Stupples buried in St Peters in Thanet in 1847 aged 46. This is the only Thanet burial I can find that fits her name.
Not much help but you might be able to rule her out of the picture

Hi,

I have now discovered that this Mary Stupples married John Wadman in Marylebone in 1837.

I have found them in the 1851 / 1861 / and 1871 census

and the widowed Mary in the 1881 / 1891 / and 1901 census.

In 1851 and 1861 they are in Offley, Hitchin, Herts.

In 1871 they are in St. George Hanover Square.

In 1881 Mary is in Fulham.

In 1891 Mary is in St Peters, Kent (with her sister Ann Cayley (nee Stupples).

In 1901 Mary is in Hammersmith.

I can't find Mary and John in 1841 (although there is a Mary Wadman in Mortlake, Richmond, Surrey without John that could be her)?

Can anyone help?

Also, I don't think they had any children (as per the census records).

Can anyone confirm this?

Also,

John died in St George Hanover Square in 1872
Mary died in Fulham in 1906.

Does their Will/Probate records give details of their family? (ie who they left their estate to)

Thanks,

Darin.

The probate index entry for the John Wadham dying in  1872 indicates that he had a son, as he is one of the executors.
To find who John left his estate to you would need to purchase a copy of the Will.

Here is the index entry
The Will of John Wadham late of 13 and 14 Dover Street  Piccadilly in the county of Middx who died 31January 1872  was proved by Mary Wadham of same address widow the relict and John George Wadham of Chapel Street Mayfair in the said county tea dealer son , two of the executors
