I have been looking for William Renny Watson who married Mary Ann Caird on the 1871, 1881, 1891 and the 1901 census but haven't been successful. They were married 1866, Row or Rhu, Dunbartonshire. William died 1900, Edinburgh and Mary died 1925, 22 Learmonth Terrace, Edinburgh. Hope somebody can help. I have tried the census's from Ancestry.

Do you have any details of any children?
How old were they when they married/died to help with a birthyear
Where were they born?
What was William's occupation on the marriage cert

I was about to ask the same questions re age , birthplace ect.
There is a Mr & Mrs William Renny Watson who travelled to New York in 1877.
They arrived in NY from Glasgow 29 Oct 1877 aboard the Brittanic
They both are entered as age 39yrs, therefore year of births circa 1838
Edit:
An 1891 census in Prestwick has had info added by another Anc member.
It says that this is William Renny Watson, who is a partner in Mirrlees Watson?

He was born around 1837, and his occupation was a engineer, he became a Sir, and his wife was about 1840, not sure where they were born, as for children I don't know.

Wiliam Renny Watson born 15 Jul 1838 Hawick, Roxburghshire
Parents: Thomas Watson and Mary Renny
Does this correspond with his parents on his 1866 marriage?

Looked up Robert Fraser Watson which I presume was Williams Brother ? he was born 1834 in Hawick and they are both at private school in 1851 ...If it is the same William he appears in the 1861 census in Aberdeen at South Stocket Road occupation engineer ...1901 Mary Anne Watson born Dundee 1839 is living in Braco Castle with a Margaret Watson

Just checked his death certificate his parents were Thomas Watson and Mary Renny, William occupation on his death certificate Engineer Chairman Glasgow South Western Railway. The reason I am trying to find out information on this family is a Margaret Dawson Lindores Anderson was a Domestic Servant, Margaret was born 16/12/1891 Cocklaw, Oldhamstocks and died 1995, Stirling, when she got married her address was 22 Learmonth Terrace, Edinburgh she married William Muir Blaikie 25/9/1917 Dean Parish Church. Mary Caird died 1925, same address given. I have tried looking in the census for both, but not been successful, Margaret was married to my distant relative.

Based on what is known about William Renny Watson, the address at 22 Learmouth Terr is probably a very large house, and no doubt there were various servants.
The 1911 census return will give an indication of the size of property and the number of people living there at that time.
-
Anne is probably right Margaret Anderson was most likely working there ..1901 census there is a Margaret Anderson aged 9 living with parent's Peter& Marion Anderson born 1892 Oldhamstocks living in Berwick ....You could maybe check the 1911 census

I have found the 1911 census for Mary she wasn't at 22 Learmonth Terrace. She was in Garlochhead. Now looking for Margaret Anderson.

That's interesting wonder what the tie up was in Garelochead and Rhu where William and Mary were married do you have addresses for these places ....this is my area :) :)

Long shot this. I am trying to pinpoint a William Renny Watson, born 1886 who in 1901 was a pupil at Ackworth Schol, Pontefract but was born in California. He died according to my information in the Cameroons of disease whilst serving in the Royal Navy - died 3.12.1918.
No trace on CWGC website.

In regards to Sir Renny Watson, I believe I've uncovered a important item of clothing that belonged to him - see attached images.
I'd like to see this item re-acquired by either descendants or as a protected historical item by any of the entities that he was involved with during his outstanding career.
