 ;D

I'm looking for them in 1901 but no luck so far.  Nor with Sarah as a child.

There is this Brumpton family with an Amelia name in the mix 1881 so could be related.

John 56
Amelia 58
John 24 son widower
Charles A 3 grandson
N A (that's how transcribed) 21 daughter
Charles 18 son

You are right.  In 1901 she is Amelia 22 with George 26 but I can't find her in 1881/1891.

In 1891 the family could be living in Lambeth Surrey

And in 1901 as Amelia Screech in Lambeth

Still drawing a blank prior to her marriage.  I wonder if mother was widowed and remarried and she is under that surname but not much time for that to happen between her birth and 1881 :-\

The costly alternative is to order her birth certificate to find out the names of her parents.
Or the marriage to get the name of her father.

I found a Charles A Brumpton age 13 in 1891 step son of William and Mary A Dale so wondered if she belonged to that family but she not there.

I think the William and Mary Ann Dale marriage is likely to be this one.  Presume William was a widower as he has Dale children.  Mary Ann has Charles but was she a widow too?  She was young to have had him.

Sep 1888 Lincoln

Mary Ann Brumpton
William Dale

Really need the birth for Sarah to be certain who she belonged to.

I will have to buy the birth certificate later in the year - I will have to win the lottery to buy all those I would like. ;D ;D ;D

Thanks for your help. :D

She appears to have been baptised as Sarah Amelia Brompton at Thames Ditton, Surrey 5 March 1880, born 15 August 1879.  Her parents were Thomas and Anna/Hannah.  He's listed as a joiner.

Can't find another Sarah Amelia Brompton/Brumpton on the birth indexes.

Also 1881 Census:

Weston Green, Thames Ditton
Thomas Brumptor Head Married 32 years, carpenter born Brigg, Lincolnshire
Hannah Brumptor Wife Married 29 years, born Thames Ditton
Jane Brumptor dau 7 years, scholar, born Thames Ditton
Charles Brumptor son 5 years, born Thames Ditton
Sarah Brumptor dau 2 years born Lincolnshire

1891 Census
Summer Road, Thames Ditton
Thomas Brompton Head Married 43 years carpenter born Brigg, Lincolnshire
Hannah Brompton Wife 40 years Laundress born Thames Ditton
Charles Brompton son 15 years Port Errand Boy born Thames Ditton
Thomas Brompton son 10 years Scholar born Thames Ditton
John Brompton son 4 years Scholar born Thames Ditton
Fanny Brompton dau 6 years Scholar born Thames Ditton

Can't see Sarah Amelia on the 1891 Census.  Thomas and Hannah have moved to Surbiton by the 1901 Census.  Unfortunately the 1911 Census doesn't list how many children they have had or are living, but they are listed under Brumpton.

The marriage certificate would confirm her father's name but I'd say that is probably her.  Perhaps they were back visiting his family when she was born.

1891 Census
Beauchamp Road, East Molesey

She's boarding with Frederick and Fanny Hamilton.  He's a baker born Thames Ditton.

Thank you for that smudwhisk :D

Enumerators only wrote down what they heard so the spelling of the surname would vary ::)

Can't find a marriage of a Thomas Brumpton/Brompton and Hannah that ties in.  However, there is a Hannah Hamilton baptised to Richard and Jane in 1851 in Thames Ditton and she appears to have a brother Frederick born 1857 according to 1861 and 1871 Census.  He's the only Frederick Hamilton born Thames Ditton that appears on the Census.

Definitely looks like mother is Hannah Hamilton.  Daughter Jane who is listed on 1881 Census with them is baptised as Jane Hamilton (although lists Thomas and Anna as parents) the same day as Sarah Amelia.  Jane's birth date is entered as 4 Feb 1876 which is wrong as she's listed as 7 on the 1881 Census and son Charles' baptism is in August 1876 with a birthdate that month.

Whether Thomas and Hannah ever married is another matter. ;D

I'd still save my pennies and get Sarah Amelia's marriage certificate to be certain.  Thomas being a carpenter should confirm it beyond any doubt but looks most likely.

You can thank familysearch for that, entered Sarah Amelia Brumpton without exact surname and it came up with the marriage index entry and the baptism as Brompton so went digging as thought was a bit of a coincidence.
