Title: Hart Famiy - Curry co Sligo
Post by: AMN on Sunday 13 April 14 16:54 BST (UK)
Hi

Does anyone have any information of the Hart family in Sligo. John Hart was born about 1858 in Curry in about 1858, his father was a Michael Hart. The surname may be spelt with an 'e'.

By 1891 John Hart was in Liverpool as he married there.

Any information would be useful.

Hi There

Was there an occupation for Michael on John's marriage cert ?

Have you any idea of John's mother's name ?

This link is for the Griffiths Valuation for Curry.

No Michael in Curry but this could mean that he either wasn't farming or that he may have still been on his father's land !

Hi Tara

Michael Hart was a farmer no idea of wife's name.

John Hart married a Margaret Bibby in 1891 in Lancashire, 4 children, Peter, John, Joseph and Thomas.

Hi Angela

There are a few reasons why Michael may not show up on the GV but the main one I think would be that he was farming his father's land - if I was to hazard a guess then the John Harte on the GV is a good possibility as the father or Michael but still early days to be 100% sure.

It's a shame that you have no mother's name as Sligo is quite good for old church records and you may have gotten a good lead this way.

Hi Tara

I am actually in Ireland next week and will be in the Sligo area - any suggestions of places to obtain information related to these topics?

I just checked and actually Achonry (which Curry comes under) on IFHF only has baptisms 1878 - 1899 and marriages 1865 - 1905.

There is also a Curry specific but the dates are much the same.

Just incase you aren't aware our civil records only began in 1864 so as John was born prior to this you need to look for church records and it appears that those for the parish you are looking for don't go back that far.

The church itself may have older ones at source but you would have to check that with them.

There is an email contact below - give them a try before going to Sligo so that you can make an appointment to see their record books if possible.

Parish Priests and their secretary's are great for knowing the local people and may be able to help further.
