Hi,
Still looking for information on Martin Conway to Sarah Orford they seemed to have 9 children between 1864-1880 Martin, James, Patrick, Mary, Mary Anne, Margaret, Bridget, John and Michael. I know Sarah had a sister called Eliza Orford who married Patrick Mitchell and also had 9 children most of whom emigrated to USA and Australia.
I can't find anything else on Martin & Sarah's marriage or deaths.
Any help appreciated.

Trying to figure out what parish it would be.
If I've got this correct Nurney is in Balyna Parish
http://www.balynaparish.ie/our-parish/parish-history/
RootsIreland don't have any records for this parish online, it's says Records held at Centre.
The National Libary of Ireland lists what survives on page 50
http://www.nli.ie/GetAttachment.aspx?id=da336de9-d90b-4d71-af14-8aa7de999a39
So looks like a visit to the National Libary or hope they get put online.

Re. Nurney being in the parish of Ballyna. I think you may be confusing the Registration District of Nurney in the north of County Kildare which contains Ballyna Parish with the town of Nurney which is further south and has its own parish called Nurney. Maybe someone else can confirm but I'll see what else I can find.

Hello again
Been looking on RootsIreland and found some probable matches. The issue is with the mothers name which may be have been written down wrong originally or mistranscribed. Let me know what you think of the following:
Marriage of Martin Conway and Sally Alford, Gurteen, Monasterevin, 20/04/1863. Witnesses Joseph Conway and Sally Kinahan.
Baptisms:
1866, Mary Conway, Gurteen, (f) Martin Conway (m) Sarah Oxford
1868, Pat Conway, Gurteen (f) Martin Conway (m) Sally Orford
1870, James Conway, Gurteen (f) Martin Conway (m) Sarah Oxford
1871, Margaret Conway, Gurteen (f) Martin Conway (m) Sara Orford
1874, Bridget Conway, Curteen (f) Martin Conway (m) Sarah Oxford
Can you tell us what you already know for sure and how you know it i.e. do you have certs or documents to prove the details. It will really help to identify the correct records and as a previous poster asked, let us know what it is you are trying to find.
All the best

More baptisms:
1877, James, Gurteen, (f) Martin Conway (m) Sarah Orford
1880, Michael, Gurteen (f) Martin Cownay (m) Sarah Alford
1882, John, Gurteen (f) Martin Conway (m) Sarah Orford
The fact that there are two James' baptised in different years threw me a bit (1870 and 1877). I thought that perhaps I was looking at 2 different families both with a Martin Conway as the head. However, when I looked at the 1901 census and saw Martin aged 23 making him bc 1877 I went back and looked again, but I couldn't find him. It definitely says James Conway in 1877. So I think it would be worth checking the original registers (if possible) to see if it is a mistake and that instead of James it should say Martin. Then that would indicate that all of these baptisms are for the one couple Martin Conway and Sara/Sarah/Sally Oxford/Orford/Alford. A woman of many names!
You should be able to obtain birth certs for the children born after 1864. Unfortunately civil registration didn't begin in Ireland for bmd's until 1864 (except for non-catholic marriages which start in 1845).
All the best

Hi Lost & Found,
Thanks for the information indeed Sarah is a woman of many names which is making researching her quite difficult. I came up with the following from online sources:-
Sarah Orford & Martin Conway had 9 children
- Martin 24/04/1877
- Mary 06/06/1864
- Mary Anne 02/01/1866
- Patrick 20/01/1868
- James 31/12/1869
- Margaret 25/09/1871
- Bridget 29/03/1874
- Michael 15/03/1880
- John 15/03/1880
I know Martin Conway her spouse was b1827 and she abt 1841 from the Census other than that I have no other information now but it looks like we are talking about the right family.
Thanks for your help - this is the kind of information I was looking for and hoping to find out her marriage date to Martin Conway and then hopefully lead me to the next line in the search his/her parents.
Thanks for your help :)

Hi,
I believe that your Martin Conway b 1877 is my great uncle. His brother John went to Boston. he married Feb, 5, 1907 to Julia Quirk. The marriage certificate has the father as Martin Conway and the mother as Sarah Oldford, which of course adds another spelling for her surname.
May I ask where you found that Sarah had a sister Eliza? I cannot find any documents in Ireland for either of them other than Sarah as the mother on the same baptism records that you seem to have. I do see them both listed in England though.

Hi Sean,
I got it from another site of someone related to Elizabeth Orford and stated she had a sister called Sarah married to Martin Conway in Kildare.
http://www.genealogy.com/forum/surnames/topics/orford/64/
Do you know what Sarah or Eliza mother and father may be I can't find any records but I think they may have been born in the UK now but I'm not 100% I have come across records of a Henry and Elizabeth Orford in England and they had a daughter Sarah born 1837 and another daughter Elizabeth which matches but I dont know if this is coincidence. Do you have any other links?
Great to find someone else working on the family tree.

Hi Jess,
I haven't been able to find anything else on Sarah or Martin's parents. If I do I'll post it here.
Thanks to the others that contributed to this thread.

Hi.
Are you still looking for information on the Conway family? I originally lived down the road from them in Nurney, in Co Kildare. It's on the Kildare to Athy Road. Martin and his brothers, the generation who were born in the 50's still live in the area. My first cousin (fathers niece) married a Hal Conway, the previous generation to the lads.
Hope this helps. If you need more assistance, please email me.
