Could this be John's parents in 1841:
Living at Clare St, St Mary's, Nottingham.
James Freestone, born 1786, stockinh maker, not born this county.
Ann,age 55, not born this county, milliner
Mary Ann, 30, born this county, milliner
Henry, 20, born this county, lace maker
Elizabeth,15, born this county, milliner
Helen, 15, book folder.

This could be James and Ann marriage:
James Freestone:
Marriage Date:    3 Jun 1805
Marriage Place:    Saint Mary,Nottingham,Nottingham,England
Spouse:    Ann Hollins

Hello
Oddly enough, FreeReg has baptisms for two children born to James and Ann Freestone in Nottingham:
Henry 18th June 1819
Ellen 21st November 1814
Abode Slop Court
Father a Framework knitter

No baptism for a John.

They do have a marriage record dated 3rd June 1805 between James Freestone and Ann Hollins (at St. Mary's, Nottingham).

I seen that Henry was with his parents in 1841 census - so I looked for a marriage for Ellen as she wasn`t on that census return ...sadly I found this - Ellen died aged 15 months old

This a little off-topic but I see on this website http://www.angelfire.com/al/aslc/archive.htm
that there is a story about John FREESTONE and his letters home from Adelaide to his family in Nottingham which were published on page 8 of the Nottingham Review, 27 July 1849.

The letters are interesting reading  :)

In the introduction it says
It will be in the recollection of our readers that about the time of the outburst of the French Revolution, when so many Nottingham lace-hands were driven from Calais, a large number of them were provided with the means of transport to Australia. The following letters are from one of the number:

adding: the biog on that site also says he spent some time in Calais

I don't think that these people are related.  That John was aged 24 when he married Emma POWER in Tasmania in 1851.

Have just started with RootsWeb, but saw earlier discussion on John FREESTONE. I am the grandson of a FREESTONE but appears to be a line from John b.1812's younger brother Henry b.1819 (who appears to have returned to Nottingham from Calais). Henry's son Edmund Frederick William b.1849 appears to have later emigrated out to New South Wales in 1868 to work on the gold fields, and was my grandmother's father. He is buried just south of Sydney having died in 1924.

Would be interested in any further information on the FREESTONES in Nottingham, or of very distant links here in Australia. I am based in Brisbane and probably better contacted on my e-mail *.
Best regards
