1851 1581/89/14 Census for Camden, 3 Camden Grove.   All surnames Morgan

William, 46, Master Mariner, Monmouthshire
Mary, 43, Monmouthshire
Mary Ann, 14, Monmouthshire
Amy, 12, London
Martha, 11, London
Edward Williams, nephew, 13, Monmouthshire

Could this be her family?    If so they came to London at some time between about 1837 and 1838.   There are 2 births registered in Stepney district which may fit - Amy Morgan 1838 Jun qtr, Stepney, 2/410 and Martha Morgan 1840 Mar qtr, Stepney, 2/484.

Long shot but a possibility, Dave

Problem is with a name like Morgan, although not as frequent as for example Jones, there are rather a lot of them.   Having Christian names like Mary and William makes matters worse.   Mary Ann's marriage certificate will give father's name and occupation.   Best ordered from GRO.

It is difficult to say, as have not found him on census to obtain year or place of birth. Cannot find Susan/Susanna(h) or Mary A in Monmouth in 1851.  There are a few poss deaths for William, between registration and 1841 census, but it does not state widow?  There is a poss marriage in 1847 to Henry Smith.  But cannot find her 1851 as Smith either.   with DOB?

Rechecked the original. Transcribed as Kuss but it could very well be Russ.

 1851 - H.0. 107 /2453  Rosie found above.  Sydney Smith is 31 not 51 mistranscribed.

Sorry I misread it, there is a line through the 3.  I could not read the age of the younger Sydney either.

Don't think he would be an uncle, possibly cousins.  Susannah was born c 1801 Thou ages are all over the place for Susan.

Possibly Mary Ann was living with Maria.  That is maybe why they are down as visitors.  Maria husband an Ag lab so working away ??
Saw this census but was put off with Mary down as ag labs dau, but they followed for Maria who is down as ag labs wife.

Marriages Jun 1847
Morgan    Susannah        Chepstow    26   73
Smith    Henry         Chepstow    26   73

So they were all together in 1851. Age is out for Susannah, but rounding up/down in 1841 and knocking a few years off with marrying a younger man.  Mary Jane was born at Nelson Street so it has to be the right family. ?

His death certificate will not help you to find out where he was born or who his parents were :'(

You really need to establish Susanna's maiden name so that you can see if William and Susanna's marriage throws any light on his origins.  Maybe the marriage that Cas found in 1847 between Henry Smith & Susanna Morgan is the one to gamble on  :-\  If it is the right marriage it should give Susanna's maiden name.  At least we have established that Sydney Smith has a first name of Henry even though he does not use it on census.
