sorry, can't help on individuals unless they are on the same website for surnames, but have you seen the the old photos on http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~rosdavies/PHOTOSwords/RailwayStations.htm

HOWEVER
Try the 1911 irish census search form http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie leaving the surname bit blank and using the same template under search enter Ballyroney townland and using the extension search under Railway as occupation, you have a result John Bingham railway labourer,Wm Adair same, Thomas Ledlie Porter,Joseph Spiers platelayer, another john Bingham a gangerand Bleakley Cochrane platelayer. This further expands if you redo entering not Ballyroney but just the DED Tirkelly where the additions are James Finney Lackan townland Porter, etc etc another 4 or 5. Then try the same trick for other DED Goodluck Jim

thanks Jim, that seemed to work for Mullafernaghan station, found another two railway workers in the adjoining townlands.
Strange though when i go to the 1911 census there`s nothing found?

Mullafernaghan railway station was on the Banbridge, Lisburn and Belfast Railway which ran from Knockmore Junction to Banbridge in Northern Ireland. It served the village of Mullafernaghan, and the neighbouring villages of Blackscull and Donaghcloney.Ashfield Halt, Blackscull and Donaghcloney.
Knockmore Junction-Banbridge for the Banbridge, Lisburn and Belfast Railway the next station was Banbridge (BLBR)
Results under Banbridge 41
Results under knockmore 10 but that’s in Co Antrim Ded Lissue
The townland Mullafernaghan falls under Magherally parish so I tried that as aDED and got Lyle a porter and McCloughan a railways servant
hoping this aNSWERS YOUR QUERY RE 1911

Thanks for help again - i have an old photo, prob round the 20`s of the railway workers there, it was taken out on the platform in front of the station, we never knew the names of those others along with my grandfather.
-
My Father was a boy porter in ballyroney station until approx 1946. We don't know how long he worked at the station. His name was william james Priestley. His father George was also an employee for a time. I know in 1922 he was a plate layer.
My enquiry is where if possible could we have access to employee records.

The national Railway museum suggests for staff records of railway companies in Northern Ireland, visit the Public Record Office of Northern Ireland.

Hi Jarvey50,
PRONI's holdings of historical records kept by railway companies are listed under the "Ulster Transport Authority" (UTA) category.
You can browse this immediately from the initial page on their website www.proni.gov.uk.
[Select "Search the eCatalogue", then "Browse the eCatalogue".]
Specifically of interest to you will be:
UTA/18 Banbridge Junction Railway
UTA/19 Banbridge, Lisburn & Belfast Railway
UTA/23 Great Northern Railway
However, none of these seem to include a category of "Personnel" under which "Salaries book, containing names of the employees, their occupations, dates of appointment and salaries per annum" might be found.
Such is extant e.g. within UTA/11/K/2-4 for the Belfast & Ballymena Railway, covering 1869-1911.
Records there were restricted to including only those employees who had served for at least 21 years.
[Presumably because they were then entitled to a pension (and a watch).
Employee records were only really kept (by the larger companies) once (private company) pensions came in.
My understanding is that the earliest was the Guinness Brewery in Dublin.]

Congrats on your purchase Andrea, hope you enjoy living there!
I did see it listed on PropertyPal and from the outside still looks very original, just looking at the photo of the bridge it seems to have two arches, can you tell if there were twin tracks on that line?
As i said before my grandfather was porter at the old Mullafernaghan station not that far from you ..... here`s an old photo, he is third left along with other station workers...

What an amazing photo! Your blessed to have such treasures. Thankyou for sharing it, it was of great interest. The building outside is very much in its original state and not listed but I still plan on restoring it sympathetically and keeping as much as possible only adding the old Victorian lighting, benches etc...items that would've been there originally. As for the arches, there are two and I think a double line though to be honest... not a 100% sure but time will answer that question when I go back up again. Inside is a HUGE job. Dear only knows when the work will be started, how long it'll take or when, if ever, it'll be finished. I don't care. I'm still thrilled to bits with it. It's the sort of building I want to hug ( at the risk of being labeled and anorak).
