My late mother was given this Bible, and I'm hoping to reunite it with it's family. The plaque inside reads "William & Mary Singleton 1857 (photo to follow). The cover is in need of some repair (photo to follow), but the rest of it is fine. I'll also include a photo of the print details.
My mum lived in Bournemouth when she was given this Bible, so maybe the family came from this area.
Not much to go on, I know, but here's hoping you Rootschatters can help!

Thanks.

There's only 1 Mr & Mrs (William & Mary) Singleton on the 1861 census in Dorset, at Lytchett Matravers, but whether that is them or not - who knows.
1857 obviously had some significance
-
Thanks dawnsh for your reply.
The family in Lytchett Matravers is worth considering, although I've searched the marriage records for a William Singleton marrying a Mary in 1857 anywhere in England or Wales and, surprisingly, there are none!

I feel that this topic may be on the wrong board - how do I move it please?
-
Where would you like it moved to?
-
I was thinking the Family Bible section.

I waved my magic wand and here you are ;D

Thanks dawnsh.

Hi Terri, I couldn't get the photo links to open, My Maternal Grand-Mother was a Singleton But from Lancashire - I don't know of any connection to Bournemouth though some of the family have moved away mainly in the British Isles Is there any mention of Preston, Ribby, Lea or Thornley?
-
Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately, the only thing we've got to go on are the names, William & Mary Singleton, and the year 1857. There is nothing written in the Bible at all.
-
Not my direct line then :( only marriages I could find for a William and Mary SINGLETON in 1857 where in the USA - A marriage seems the most likely event Good Luck in your quest
-
Hi TerriG,
I've just found this thread and wondering if you had any luck locating the family connected to this bible? My maternal line is Singleton, and the family has been in the Bournemouth area from the 1800s so there might be a connection. Off to do some digging!

Hi Willow
Thank you for your message. The bible is still languishing in my shed - I would love to be able to pass it on!
Would you like any help with your Singleton research?
Terri
