I'm trying to find Thomas Jones in the 1881 census. In 1911, he is living in England with his wife Agnes, nee Sharp. He was born around 1876 in Holywell. I've done some searches already but it's coming up with loads of results and I need to narrow it down. His father was called Thomas Jones but that is all I know about his family in Wales. What can I do to narrow down my search?
Thanks,
Elizabeth

How certain are you that you have the correct Thomas & Agnes in 1911
The Thomas b Holywell only seems to have been married to Agnes for 4 years???
Do you have them on 1901 census ??
Might this Thomas (or Edward Thomas ) have been born Buckley Flints???
Do you have the marriage certificate? That would give (Edward) Thomas' occupation
Witnesses may be related
What was Agnes' father's name??

Hi Suz,
Thomas married in 1907 in Barnsley. I was told my an aunt that his father's name was Thomas but I still need to confirm this. I thought about buying his birth certificate but I need both parents names and year of birth. Jones is a very common surname and there are many Thomas Jones born around 1876 in Holywell!

its the marriage cert you need to begin with -that would give name of father and occupation
I'll see if I can find anything

I realise that now having looked properly at the census ;D

On the census, he had just written 'Miner'

I'm sure you will find him for yourself in 1901 listed as a stepson given as born in a nominal Flint Flintshire in c 1877.Though I have traced him back to Holywell in 1881 where he is with parents and paternal Grandfather,I can find Mother Mary now Roberts in 1891 with Thomas's brother William(1882) but Thomas is absent?

William Russell Jones.

William, I'm having trouble finding him in 1881 census. What is his father's name?
-
He is in Nant Bach Holywell with father Thomas and Grandfather Thomas, though he is given as born in Manchester, looking at the mother Mary,I think it is the right Thomas.

Just a little more on all this.Thomas's mother Mary was in fact surnamed Riley. She first married Thomas Jones snr at Manchester Cathedral in 1874.The marriage record on Ancestry states that her father was a John Riley,a Joiner.I was able to find out her surname after finding her second marriage to the given name Thomas Roberts at Bagillt St Mary Flintshire in 1888.A contact kindly sent me details of this marriage record.
