Title: William Glover Humphries
Post by: wilwil on Sunday 18 May 14 06:22 BST (UK)
Hi All

I am searching for any information on the parents of William Glover Humphries who was born in London in 1812 and died in Nairne, South Australia on 16 July 1881. He was married to Lucy Gill on 11 Jun 1833 and they had seven children. Unfortunately I have no info at all on his parents and would appreciate any that can be given

Thanks
Wilwil

The marriage has him as William Humphries, no Glover.  They were both of the parish.
The witnesses were George Manton & Jane Binns who married the same day.  William and Lucy were witnesses to George & Jane's wedding.

Does his death certificate give any information on his parents  :-\  When did they go to Australia

Hi, Possible marriage of son William?
1864 57/185 William HUMPHRIES = Ellen JEFFERY
and birth of grandson
1867 54/364 HUMPHRIES William John Father William HUMPHRIES Mother Helen JEFFREY at Nairne

BUT.. Williams death has nothing.
1881 112/342 William HUMPHRIES

According to Trove the notice of his death gives no family information either. Just that he was a colonist of 44 years and he was 69 years of age and died from paralysis. (stroke possibly). :-\

Some more thinking needed.  :P Possibly their immigration file  ???

There is one Notice of a William Humphries arriving Dec 1st 1852 by what looks like a coastal steamer in Adelaide on the same ship a Lady with 5 children, no name.

Neil ::)

My Grt Grt Grt Grandfather was William Glover Humphries, his second son, my Grt Grt Grandfather William John Humphries married Ellen Mann Jeffery b 9 July 1843 in Tavistock, Devon, England (not Helen Jeffrey buried at Nairne), arriving on the "Hooghly" on 19 April 1855, they are both buried at a Cemetery in Glen Osmond on cnr Pridmore Ave! Their eldest son William John Humphries married Rachel Charlotte Renfrey and one of their sons Colin is my Grandfather.  I have the marriage details for William Glover Humphries and Lucy Gill both buried in Nairne.  If you google "William Glover Humphries" you will find other RootsWeb chats regarding the descendants of William and Lucy Humphries.  As the family is big, I won't be listing all the descendants of William and Lucy - I found it very easy to trace the Humphries family since they arrived in South Australia and am still trying to confirm that John Glover Humphries was in fact William's father???  I'm happy to answer questions via private email, if you'd like more information
