The probate of his will states probate granted 27th March
RAYNOR WILLIAM BOWLES the will of William B Raynor late of 39, Broad Street in the Town of Nottingham - GENTLEMAN who died 13/03/1874 at 39, Broad Street was proved at Nottingham by Joseph Berrington of Great-Freeman-Street Nottingham Inspector of Police the sole executor.
Effects under £100
Have you tried the Police Museum they keep a lot of details on their past policeman it may be possible to get details from them, or the local library , also a good source of info, I am wondering if this address was a rest home for retired policeman as he had a police inspector in charge of his will.

Hi
This may be 2 years too late but....
William Bowles Raynor is the grandfather x 3 of my husband. I found a christening record on Find My Past for 16/2/1806 at St Mary Nottingham. No father is stated on the record and his mother is listed as Catharine Raynor. So, he may be illegitimate.
If you traced his parents any further I would be happy to find out any more info.
Thanks Bridget

Hi,
I'm just starting to research William Bowles Raynor and came across these interesting posts. My tree is:
George Raynor 1902-2002 (my grandfather)
William Downing Raynor 1876-1961
Edwin Raynor 1847-1927
William Raynor 1826-1900
William Bowles Raynor 1802-1874
I know these posts are quite old now but I would be really keen to chat to anyone else who has also been looking for details on him. I've found some interesting background information on his time in the police from a book called "Victorian Nottingham - Police courts and prisons".
Thanks,
Tim

Many thanks for the information you've posted, that's really interesting. If you've got any other details of the William Bowles line, I'd be really keen to see them.
Do you know what the date of the paper cutting is? I'd not got any details of William Bowles's father, so that's fantastic, as it not only gives his name but his date of birth (roughly) and the date he died.
I've attached an exert I found in a Victorian Nottingham book that describes a bit more about his time in the police force. I've also got a picture of him, which I'll dig out and post.

sorry dont know date of cutting my brother took the photo of a image from nottm archive or the nottm ibrary
-
Many thanks for the photo that's really interesting and is definitely a match for the photo I've got (attached). No worries on the date of the news paper archive, I'm sure I can track that down. I've got a snippet too, that talks about his funeral. I think I'll have a go at looking through more of the news paper archives, as it sounds like there's some good information there.
-
This is the cutting I've got.
