Title: Peter Joseph Horan
Post by: Dave26 on Monday 02 June 14 13:36 BST (UK)
Hi Folks.
I am trying to find the parents, and any siblings, of Peter Joseph Horan. He was born around 1863 in Co. Wicklow and married in Stoke Damerel, Devon, in 1890.
In the 1891 census he, along with his wife Emily J, is living in Swansea. His occupation is a Corporal in the Royal Artillery.
In the 1901 census they are back in Stoke Demerel, along with their 5 children. He is now a Company Sargent Major.
In the 1911 Irish census he has retired from the Army and the family are living in Dublin.

I have no info before his marriage in 1890, or after the 1911 census. If anyone can add anything extra I will be very grateful.

Dave

There is a death in Cork for a Peter Joseph Horan in 1932 age about 63
and an Emily age 69 in 1944.
no match to those names on 1911 census for Cork so could they have moved.

There is a marriage in Dublin North for an Agnes Horan in 1917.
There are a few Agnes Horans in Dublin but their average age would have been 12 in 1917.

Thanks very much dathai. I have the 1911 Irish census entry for them and they are in Dublin. They must have moved to Cork after that.

Agnes was his daughter born 1893 in Swansea, while he was still in the army. Do you have any details as to what her husband's name was?

Sorry there are over 4000 marriages in Dublin North in 1917 it would take some considerable time to go through them plus you might get 4 matches to the volume and page number for a spouse.
The only way is to take a gamble on ordering the cert
Agnes Horan marriage Oct Dec 1917 Dublin North vol 2 page 489 this is sufficent information if you do decide to order it,you do not need to know the husbands name when applying.

Hi Sharon
Rather a distant one I'm afraid. He is the father in law of my 5th cousin, 3x removed, on my father's side of the family.
You say that he had 9 children. I have only 7, James, Agnes, Herbert, Eileen and Evelyn, all born in Swansea and Laurence and Mervyn born in Devonport. Could you tell me the names of the other 2 please.

Dave

Hi Sharon
Thanks for the updated name list. Eileen is on the Free BMD site as Eileen Mary T Horan, born 1895 Dec Swansea Vol 11a Page 933, died 1896 Sept Swansea Vol 11a Page 501 age 0.

Could you clear up something for me? In Free BMD there is an Emma Tumey O'Brien born 1873 Sept Stoke Damerel Vol 5b Page 339, but in all the census entries that I have seen Peter's wife is called Emily J. Can you confirm her name from the marriage certificate that you have. Also could you tell me her father's name and occupation.

Dave

I am the Grandson of Peter Horan and Emily O Brien, the son of Gerry Horan their youngest child. Peters parents were based in Grangecon Co Wicklow in the 19th century. Following Army service abroad they located in Drumcondra Dublin. Emily moved to Cork and lived with her daughter Aggie in Riverstown Cork, Peter followed at a later stage, both Peter and Emily are buried in Rathcooney Cemetary in Cork. Three of their children made their lives in Cork, Aggie married Andrew Mylod and had 6 children, Vera married John O Keefee and had 3 children and Gerry married Nora Murphy and had 3 children of whom I am one. If you are looking for specific information please do get in touch.
Are you connected to the family we would be really interested to hear from you.

Hi,

Today (Saturday 2nd June, 2018) Re: Horan Family.

I was amazed and delighted to find this site, after trying to track down the name Mylod, via FaceBook.

My name is Philip my Nana was Evelyn Kate Horan, who was born in Swansea (her father was in Irish army and travelled). My Nana married George Lane, my Grandad, and lived in Tranmere, Birkenhead.  . I have an older sister, Norma and an older brother, Mervyn.

Evelyn's daughter (my dearest Mum) was called Alice and I used to visit Cork with my Mum, as a youngster and stay with "Aunty" Aggie and "Uncle" Andy Mylod (they lived on a hill, in Cork, overlooking a large church). . I also used to play football, including Gaelic Football, plus hurling, with my "2nd or 3rd or 4th?" cousin, Patrick Hogan down in Cork City by the old gasometer, on an old playing field. His Mum and Dad were called "Chicky" and "Paddy" and they had a younger son called "Marty." Pat Hogan and I were in regular contact, in our younger days and when I visited Cork, we'd often sneak off with his mates and smoke a pack of Carolls!!

I also had an "Aunty Dick" and Uncle Tim" who lived near Wilton, plus I had an "Aunty Buppy" (Moira) who lived in Limerick and stayed there too. Sadly, my Mum, Alice, passed away in April, 2005 and I wished that I had kept more records - I have quite a few pictures and Aunty Moira and Aunty Chicky once came over to Birkenhead with their mother, Agness and stayed with us for a few days.

Finally, I have a niece (my brother, Mervyn's daughter) who lives just outside Killorglin.

I'd love to hear from anybody and even call into Cork for a pint, when I'm visiting my niece in Co. Kerry

Best wishes

Phil
